Anyone done 1 lately? Did one a few years ago for car and gotta do another 1 to shorten R time. Just wondering if you need to do a motorbike one or will any1 do.
I have an exemption to ride over 250cc and it has on the form
"To be eligible to obtain your class 6 full licence before your exemption expires, you will be required to complete a motorcycle approved course
Anyone had experience with them specifying a place?
Would much rather do it on the shore if theres anyone around who does it here.
Gonna call the LTNZ monday as there closed 2day but thought i'd see here anyway

Ive got the same letter for my exemption. The Defensive course is a 6 session class room course over a few weeks, all about driving, not riding from what I hear.. so more about awareness, hazards on the road etc..
and a quick drive on the last session (in a car)
Alternatively, you can do the session with John (as mentioned), though this is just a refresher in a car park in Wiri (manukau) for a couple of hours, you get a letter from him and you can give that back to the LTSA.
Im going down to do it next week hopefully as I really cant be bothered with the several weeks of classroom sessions.. :o)

Found out you don't have to do it there, they just wrote it for some silly reason. Need to do a normal one for the cops so gonna just go to takapuna driving school as they do it over 10 days instead of 4 weeks :)

I rung up the AA and they said it's spread over 2 weeks. 4 sessions in total.
This is the one to reduce the restricted licence period. I assume that's the one you're refering to?
I tried John but he said "Nope, don't do no courses for that"

The takapuna one is just the normal one for reducing time, same as the AA. Most seem to cost about $170, doesn't have a price on the website thou.
Think the John Wright one is a refresher kinda thing which you then have to write to LTNZ and get them to take your time down. Not to sure about it thou.

Yeah, they quoted me 170 for the DDC.
Not cheap but worth it. Although I reserve the right to change my opinion at the completion of the course.

The course isn't worth it at all but knocking 6 months off is def. worth it :)

The course is actually worth it, unless you go into it with a closed mind.
Sure, it has no practical relevance to riding skills on a motorbike, but it does try to demonstrate how to ride/drive defensively, which would be a nice change to the offensive driving I see most of the time.
It also aims to teach hazard assessment, and risk management, and they go over why certain length/time laws/advice exist.
And no... I don't run them, but I have done it, and the bronz course.
