Hi! I'm from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It's a really nice place in the summer to live, but I am sick and tired of winter in Canada because half of the year I cannot ride my bikes. Vancouver is warmer but rains too much, often they have had several weeks of rain non-stop in the winter with only very rare sunny days. I enjoy scrambling mountains, hiking, skiing etc. So out of all the English speaking countries in the world, it appears that New Zealand is way up on top of my list of ideal places to live because of the activities I like. I don't have a family or permanent ties to Canada so I'm free to wonder the world. So I'm seriously considering shipping my Ducati 1098 (and a few other things) to NZ later on this year. This bike is too expensive in NZ!! That's why it's way cheaper for me to just ship mine. I'll be trolling around a bit looking for tidbits of info such as insurance, good roads, using the forum search feature :)
I'm both a new rider, and an experienced rider at the same time... 2 years ago I got my mc license, after having a drunken hot-tub dream that I should do a motorcycle tour of Europe. So 3 months of experience later I flew with my 919 hornet on a plane to London England and launched myself into a 7500 km Europe tour. Also rode a lot in Canada that year, and early the year after on a 900RR. I went back and did another 7500 km Europe tour in 2007 on the 919. I've ridden in some pretty crazy rush hour traffic in London, Milan, Paris, and Rome. The trips were awesome. So far I have about 50,000 km under my belt, not bad considering I can only ride about half of the year I guess... :) I'm a bike fanatic now. The 1098 is my dream bike.
I hope to be a regular on this forum if I move to New Zealand :)
I'd be possibly looking to do some Mechanical Engineering machine design contract work possibly too. Is mechanical engineering a profession in demand in New Zealand? hmmm.
