Just a thought but Rimutex to Ashhurst is 2 hours to join the Manawatu and Hawkes Bay crowd on a bit of a jaunt (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=66240) per Chanceyys post?
It would mean leaving Rimutex at 0730 to get to themn at 0930ish.

I'm going the other way - Shell Mana at 8am thru Shannon to Woodville by 10am, then we're going to hit the gravel and dirt tracks.

Not much North of Featherston on highway 2 either if you're trying to get to Ashhurst by 9.30. I'm just doing the quick way to Woodville then we'll have fun and I don't like getting up early - this will be bad enough .

The options seem to be at the moment
1) Rimutex @ 0730 (we can go all the way to Asshurst or just wait in Woodvillle for the Asshurst crowd to come to us)
2) Shell Mana @ 0800 (merv is going that way to meet up with the Dirty crowd at Woodville)
I'd rather do 1) but am somewhat attracted to the extra half hour in bed and the 1.5hrs of boring road vs the 2hrs of almost boring road (except the Takas). I'll play with the crowd.

No....not the 'Hoe net' it has decided it prefers its jockey going everywhere on one wheel, rather than my more sedate style :msn-wink:, my new beastie arrived last night, so I'll be cruisin along just getting to know him on a more intimate level:niceone:

Cool ... so the road bikes are meeting at Rimutex for 0730 departure. We might have a bit of leeway as the Palmy main group is leaving Ashhurst at 10 and coming through the gorge so we can meet them in Woodville at 10 past.
I still think we have to allow 2 hrs to get there don't we? I rekon plan for 0730 and see what happens. If we plan for 0800 we prolly won't make it.

Anyone from up the Coast that wants to ride with us on the way to Woodville remember I said we are leaving Shell mana around 8am, picking up Frodo at Paekak and then going straight there via Shannon.

I went to Dannevirke for breakfast via Pongoroa. Saw some bikes at the BP.
The cafe I normally go to was closed, not FTW Dannevirke. Was starving so ate some shitty, greasy gunk from another cafe on the main road.
The 70k from Pongoroa to Dannevirke is oarsome.
Between Whangaehu and Alfredton the road was covered in cow shit. Seems every farmer in that locale decided to change paddocks yesterday. Thanks to the rider heading in the opposite direction for the stock warning wave. Actually I think I passed him again near Eketahuna. Must have been doing a round trip too :2thumbsup
Lots of loose sheep. One just lying in the middle of the road like it owned it, what's up with that? Heh. Thank gosh they don't like growly gixxers.
From Dannevirke I went via SH57, Pahiatua Track, then SH2 back to Wellington. Got home. Cleaned cow shit off bike. Went out again...

Yes but self-inflicted ... the best kind :) Actually met up with the Welington Cruisy Wednesday Night Ride at the Featherston pub and stayed with them until after dark.
I've decided I don't much like the hill when it's dark ... at least not until I have a headlight that swivels in the direction of the turn

Next trip like this needs to be a 2 day affair, no panic about getting back, can expore way more area .
Still was a great trip was starting to feel it on the way home ,stomach/chest pains, pot bellys and sportbikes dont mix to well.
Legs hands would cause problems I thought but no.
Apart from 1 nackered back tyre that over cooked its self all went very well.
