I know Dave Jefferies proved what could be done, but do you think that being around the 83 kilo mark is too heavy to be racing 600s?

Not if heavier riders are more skilfull than their more emaciated counterparts...

Well, hell, if 83 is questionable for the 600s, *I'd* better set my sights on a MotoGP ride.

Heck, why can't they have weight divisions like in boxing and Tae Kwon Do, I'd be up for the super heavy weight 125 race. It would be kind of funny to watch too.

The rough formula is 5kg = 1hp in acceleration (braking and cornering benefits aside). So an 80kg rider vs a 60kg rider will be giving up 4hp.
Weight isn't really an issue until you are racing at the national level where every little bit helps.

I'm not sure even that could save me.

80kg heavy? :thud:. fuck I'm not fat and I weigh that. Fine in F3, not sure I'd want to race a 125 though.
maybe in the future all bike racers will be like jockeys and weigh about 30kg

SVS with only 80 kgs on the SV650 you should be flying :shifty: I was about 130 kgs with leathers :scooter:
So by that reckoning.....64 hp at the rear wheel (with standard engine) means I was giving 10 hp away to 80 kg riders and even more to the scrawny kids....and that's without having to brake harder/earlier, and carrying less corner speed. Wow a whole load of excuses have just opened up for me.

At my absolute fittest (when I played rugby) I was 78 kilos.
Ten years later I'm 20 kilos heavier. Perhaps its time to see if I can fit a Rocket III motor in the fizzer?

Bring it on, I'll be "gaining" almost 6hp in the next while, when I light weight my bikes "all up" weight...

I set my bikes up for 90kg - which is my ideal weight. I've never noticed a difference in speed for when I am heavier - but have in the handling dept.

as a matter of interest former national 600 sports production and f2 champion craig shirrifs weighs 75 kgs, so thats bugger all difference.
at the pacific series i saw two guys double running a bike in clubmans and f3 i think one looked like about 55kgs the other about 120-130kgs. the difference in sag was at least 2 inches.
