Full license question

Morning all :)

I have my full license test coming up and the only 1 thing I am a little unsure of is the U-Turn (The handling aspect is no problems). I could not find any info in the road code about U-turns, unless I missed it

Am I correct in using the following procedure?

1. Indicate to the left and pull to the side of the road
2. Check both ways are clear and then indicate right
3. Make u-turn, stop indicating and carry on.

This is the only thing I am unsure of.

Yeah, this is the bit im worried about too :(

Do you fail if one foot comes down to balance? Eg, your right foot is off the peg? Im sure i read somewhere that if you do this you fail...

Well, accepted wisdom is that the U turn must be feet up all the way through. However, you might get away with a quick dab if you looked solid otherwise.Better not to risk it though, a U turn is pretty basic stuff, any rider should be able to do it without even having to think (they always pick a fairly wide road for it)

I had to do a U-turn in a 100km zone but there was a passing lane on one side so I had mega space to do it in....if it was a really tight road I would think he/she would let you away with a bit of foot balancing

I did my test about 4 weeks ago. I failed the U turn part of the test for 2 reasons:

1 - Apparently I did not make it obvious enough that I had looked up and down the road. REALLY turn your head so it is obvious to the tester.

2 - Ashamed to say it - I put my foot down.

BUT - this does not mean that you have failed the test. This is only a couple of 'marks'. I still passed but this was just something that the instructor pointed out to be in the debrief.

Its like the written - you can get a couple of bits wrong and pass OK.

Be sure to practice your 'heart out' for a bit.

A nicely implemented U-Turn is of the most valuable skills you can have under your belt as a motorcyclist.

Don't sweat it too much, but it's been my own personal philosophy to get that darn U-Turn right.

I reckon a lot of people don't practice or perfect their U-Turns enough but that's understandable with fear of fucking it up or dropping your bike.

There's a fair bit of resources around on techniques and doing tight U-Turns with shifting your weight/bum.
