Gotta love cheap flights around the country .. anyhow with Birthday last week & the temptation to disappear (kinda - sorry it was not permanent) where have I been ????

here are a few pics as a teaser .. those who know dunna give the game away

however it was the most excellent weekend .. with a job housesitting where the occupants had gone away for the weekend & only needing to feed the dogs & cats (no problem) & the promise of a birthday treat or two how could i resist..

so on the plane I get friday nite .. where the captain kindly informs us when he called into the destination at lunch time it was a balmy 32 degrees and no wind .. now later in the evening it was a raging southerly and 15 degrees .. the whole plane laffed rather nervously as most were in very little clothing .. for me having been warned it was cold I had on hand my bike jacket to put on ..

must add here that to get my birthday treat I really needed to bring my bike gear .. ohh ok then :2thumbsup i am in :wari:

so thanks to a kber who picked me up from the airport to take me to my housesitting "job" it was great to catch up .. after spending a nite with a hard body .. namely a staffy called amber who once was in bed died rather nicely & would not move over .. (only to be told she is not allowed to sleep on the bed .. :nono: )

Saturday dawned fine & the southerly the day prior cooled the temp enough to make it perfect biking weather .. so geared up & awaited my chauffer to pick me up .. so a few bike shops were checked out .. but we flagged that idea & took off for our lunch destination .. spent a couple of fab hours out there .. & off again ..

around some great twisties & sweepers & when he pulled over wondered wot was wrong .. well fark me .. handed me the keys & said happy birthday .. take it for a ride ... are you sure ??? ok then I was off .. well hell love the extra power & nice to pass cars with just opening the throttle .. did my usual trick & rode past waving with a huge grin on my face .. but yes I finally rode back to pick him up ..

then it was off again gas up, & another few hundy ks to our next destination .. after talking the cafe owner to let us have a drink (he had closed) we sat on the grass & took in the amazing scenery .. back to the house & a great nite of  alcohol and ... well lets just leave it there

sunday & it was serious recovery time .. waiting for the house occupants to get home & catch up before I caught a ride to the airport & home again ...

it was seriously the best birthday treat I have had in quite a few yrs .. thank you hon .. will see you again soon

So I'm guessing it looks like Diamond Harbour followed by Roxburgh. Cool :scooter:  If you hadn't said a few hundy k's away I might have thought Lake Coleridge.

OK Charteris, near enough - well yeah I spent 5 years in the South and for all of NZ there is only one area on the main islands I have never been and that is the Catlins.

Coleridge isn't hundy's of kms though that's what was getting me - it would be what about 100 at most from Charteris?

Here you go here's a couple of my pics at Coleridge January 1977 . Mrs merv back when every self respecting chick drove a Mini and then a pic of the powerhouse from a different angle up above the penstocks.

p.s. just looked again and those first two pics had to be at Diamond Harbour because no way would you be looking at Lyttelton wharves from that angle at Charteris.

the third pic is Godly house at Charteris Bay .. the picnic table in the foreground is where we sat .. turn around & the first two pics are almost in front of that table .. thought Diamond harbour is prior to that .. but then I am not real familiar of that area so could be wrong ..

and that would be such a shame .. its such a restful place with awesome scenery, great food & the ambiance of the place is fabulous .. was sad to read that info on the window .. lets hope they get enough support to change them darn bureaucrats minds ..
