I really had trouble finding a DR when I was looking. I think if you got a bidder at $2500 as you have now you should sell at what you can get and not get greedy. This is a mostly road oriented bike that cant be ridden on the road so there wont be a queue of buyers so even at a fair price you may struggle getting a buyer. I am guessing your expectations are about right but personaly I would drop my reserve so that bidders would know the bike will definatley sell to the highest bidder, and hope for a bit of action just before the auction closes.
Good Luck !
So what are you getting next?

I agree with Gazbur (much as I hate agreeing with anything a mainlander says....), you may get your $2850 but it is a very small market and with the new price having been chopped another $1000 this year it has driven all the second hand prices down.
Take what you can for it and get on with life!

Good luck, be good to see you out on a few rides!!

Mainlander!!! Oh I take offence and must challenge you to a duel!!!!
:girlfight:
There - honour is satisified.

I bought my DR second hand a year ago for $7000 in mint condition and had no choice - it was pay that or dip out, and I had to travel to ChCh to find one at all! I haven't regretted it but wish I could have held off till they dropped the price.

PS I am not a Mainlander and I have only heard a few ChCh people with inferiority complexes say that they are Mainlanders.

You're right, but because there were a shit load sold at that price there are a lot of new, cheap bikes out there. When they start being sold secondhand (in about 3 months when the novelty has worn off) for $6,500 the market will continue to be influenced by them.
Simple rule of the marketplace, when new stuff is dumped on the market, the prices drop across the board.

I rode a DR650 before I bought my Freewind. Completely different handling characteristics though, which was a dissapointment. Looks like good value to me. Great looking bike.

I just sold my 1999 Freewind for $5,500, which I thought was very high. I believe that it was the scarcity value that did it. If you find someone after a scarce DR650 - IMO you will get your price.

Good luck.

There is that too. And I'd need a new house so I have somewhere to put it. Anyone with a house and money to give away? No harm in asking...

the $7995 price was for the suzukifest will soon go back to $8995 untill the next suzukifest next summer

My 2007 cost AU$8500,close to $1000 was on road costs... That would be around NZ$10000.
RRP in the Northern Territory was AU$8900,cheaper in the southern states but nowhere near the value of NZ.

Comparison

New Buell Lightening XB12SS AU$19000

The same bike in NZ AU$15600

????

but nowhere near the value of NZ.Yebbut, Suzuki in NZ are buying their way to the number 1 sales spot in NZ... ousting Honda. Sell the bikes cheap, try to get the profit back in sales volume and inflated parts prices.

thats where places like kientech engineering come into it,cheaper to get parts from companies like these guys in yank land than it is to get from suzuki.
