This is an awesome site. have been a member 4 a week now and have been interested to read about the issue of getting a bike without your partners support, either me or that friggin bike senario!! Well when afta nearly 20 years without a bike I told my fiancee of my plans to get back into biking, I can tell u she was non committal in relation to her bad ride with her ex... like riding on the back with your eyes shut... waiting for the idiot to stop and scare the crap out of her:doh: . A few years ago I persuaded my fiancee to go 4 a ride with me on my m8s trail bike, afta awhile she regained her confidence in riding and enjoying the experience. Now with my fiancee's support I have now got a yammy 400 and we go ova to sumner beach which is 10 mile ride and stop 4 cuppa or lunch. She is now a converted bikers chick which makes me a very happy biker :2thumbsup .The point I am trying to make is there is hope and dont take anyone for a ride doing wheelies or powerslides!!!

Good advice Iggy...

I was bought up on and around bikes (brothers and dad had a mixture of road and trail bikes amongst them), although I never really rode myself.

Even though I considered myself a 'weathered and veteran pillion' and able to handle most situations, I had a couple of bad experiences that put me off bikes for a long time. Some guys in my experience, seemed to feel that the more risks they took with a pillion on the back, the more of a 'man' they were. They were very wrong, it just demonstrated an utter lack of respect for their pillion. It culminated with me refusing to get back on a Harley as a pillion with my ex, and two hours later he had quite a bad accident.

Luckily, I then decided if I was going to take my own life in my hands then I should be the one 'driving' as it were. Now I only pillion with riders that have respect for both themselves and their passengers.

Good on ya for taking the time to get your girls confidence back up.. some people can be real asses and they dont just ride bikes (voice of experience here lol) Have fun and be safe

There is nothing like sharing your passion with your partner. My mate Cy has just got his license and biking is now just another hobby he can't share with his wife Viccie.

I am very lucky that my bloke is an excellent rider and I am a very happy pillion passenger. Good on ya for not frightening the begesus out of her, sounds like you are a sound guy with your head screwed on the right way. Your other half is a lucky lady!!

Look after your pillion, its nice to have company on a ride. Get an intercom kit so you dont need to stop to talk. I've got an XJ 750 as well as the FJ. Yammy riders unite !!!

Many thanx guys and gals for your positive comments, I guess I am a lucky guy to have someone who shares my passion, although I must admit I never realised how much I missed biking until I saw the movie The Wild Hogs, it sort of inspired me to maybe get back into biking. My fiancee luckily has the same sense of humour as I do so thought it was the right time to ask how she felt about me buying a bike. :cool: Looking forward to getting a bigger bike hopefully a yammy r6 so can take my soon to be wife on longer rides. By the way we get married on the 8th march 08 and no not gonna turn up at the church on my yammy:laugh:

Good on you Iggy. Patience and kindness for pillions with previous bad experiences is key to getting them to trust themselves in your hands completely AND enjoy it. It can take a while for that confidence to be rebuilt but when it is they are suddenly able to enjoy it on the back (almost) as much as when you driving it yourself...almost

Learn to communicate by touch and sign and you'll develop your own language.Much more fun and you learn the important things to comment on while out on a ride.My "traction control/speed limiter/wife " has been on the back for more than 20 years and we talk with nudges,squeezes and the occassional slap on the back of the hemet.:2thumbsup

Iggy you are the man!!!!!I am balzybuells other half and because we can only afford one bike i sadly have to be backseat rider so to speak but because i trust my man so much i wouldn't hesitate in getting on the back with him and feeling totally relaxed while humming along, Your misses will get sorted and be delighted everytime you go out, Keep being safe and alive, See you on the road one day maybe who knows
