Bit of a tricky one that - a sidecar has always been considered an attachment,it can be taken off at will,if it's a one piece unit it is classed as such. There is no provision in the VIRM for sidecars, apart from dimensions and the obvious stuff like lighting and tyres. But you can be sure the LTSA wants a controling hand here, work is in progress.Seeing as you have to go for a VIN,it's up to them, and it's whether they see it as for the purpose of the year of manufacturer...like what it had to comply with then,or if they are going to go on 2004 regs - if it's the latter you are done for.Try to VIN it as a combination,if they kick you out the door...VIN it as a solo and remove the chair for WoFs.

for that , the sidecar is only on a wee 1980 CG110 and is only suitable for goods , I would say it was a delivery bike for somewhere as the unit is so tidy and well done it looks like a production line thing , it only has a left turning indercator and a reflector and I wasnt too sure if it would need a nother stop/rear light ??-- am tossing up weather to VIN it as a unit or a solo

When I had my Yamaha XJ750 with a side car I took just the bike in and asked about the side car, they told me they do not warrent side cars and as long as Tyre, wheel bearing and lights (that was rear and front indicator, red rear light with brake light also a white or amber light to the front) that I could just bolt the thing on they were not interested in checking the mounts or any thing.
They said as long as the bike has a wof and the bits mentioned above are okay thats all that matters.
