Chicken strip width varies between bikes. The SV1000 had strips on the rear I just couldn't get rid of but the S3 just loves falling all the way over with mini strips. And I am not fast. My front tyres have large strips and little wear except in the middle and I have noticed considerable wear on other riders front tyres. But then I don't like hammering into corners on the brakes.

It could be that you are not leaning/steering properly....in most cases the rear strips should be less on the rear than front. :weep:

It means you have a flatter profile front tyre and a more rounded profile rear tyre. Normally you would want this the other way around and have a quite steep profile front as it is better to start running off the rear first rather than losing the front first. Is it more of a touring or cheap commuting tyre on the front?

I think you have been sleepwalking out to the gargre where the sprotsbike is praked, hoisted it on a a bit o'wood under the oppo side of the kickstand, started it and got some sandpaper onto the wrong wheel ...
Now what you need to do is to find some chicken or turkey feathers and glue them on the edges what need stripping!

dipshit has it right. Mate had a zxr400 as well, pilot roads I think. The profile combination that was correct for the bike resulted in a very flat front, and very curved rear.
As dipshit says, you ideally want to run out of rear first, as its easier to control than losing the front.

As a general rule this means you are not using enough gas.
Result you are only steering from the front.
If this you are happy with your riding it is nothing to worry about.

He will need more juice before this assists because to get out on the side of the rear tire you need gas baby.
This is because countering without gas results in more of the front tyre being used than the rear.
How much faster did you turn with a little juice when you finally listened to me tonight?

yes my mates cbr gets rid of em easy on the rear and front...same tyres same profiles...
my zxr has a non stock rear rim...i think thats the issue...and my rear shock is fucked.

Who really cares whether a tyre has been used to the very edge of its carcass. Very few people actually use the entire tyre before it wears out anyway (e.g. commuting wears out middle, not edges)
Chicken strips taste best when barbequed

Chicken strips are nothing to worry about on either end of the bike (despite what I tell Dipshit when he gets on his soapbox) and as a number of people have pointed out, it depends as much on the tyre shape as it does lean angle. 120/60 section front tyres are notorious for for running out of rubber on the edge before the rear.
If you're happy with your riding, don't stress.

more gas is good! the more revs you have and watching for your exit from the corner of course, you turn alot faster tighter and smoother than just coasting around! (maybe i should go back to being a hoon)

The problem isn't *having* chicken strips (only wankers go around worrying about that) ... the problem is *not* having any on the front.
You don't want be riding off the front tyre first before the rear.

yes 'em.....im not stressing about it really..I was just more interested in seeing if there was perhaps a reason for it. I had the front wash out on me on the whangamoa's a few months back but that was when my front left shock let go and gushed oil everywhere. low speed...but scary as it was a 35k lefty corner and if there had been anything coming the other way I would have been toast...minor damage to the fairings and a hole in my left glove from where I put my hand down. (and full undies)
But yes on further investigation the front wheel seems to be a harder compound than the rear and a different profile. Ive just kinda kept my eye on it the last few weeks. Its due for replacement soon...only has about 3mm tread left so i'll match it up with the rear which seems to hang on no matter how hard its worked....feels really solid....the front can get a little hairy at times. :niceone:

My chicken strips are smaller on the right hand side of my bike, than on my left. This brings me to think the world is made up of more sharp handed right hand corners than left ones. That or i'm a total chicken when turning left :bleh:. Chicken strips don't mean much to me, just gotta ride :scooter:, i wouldn't know why your front has non dude sorry. lol

Camber... definitely.
AND for those who give a damn, my chicken strip is about 10mm... Dunlop 140/90 15... yes I have pegged a couple of times when I have gone in too hot.
The front I have is the factory issued one as far as I can tell. with 82 000 k's plus on it:clap:

maybe the front tyre is running low tyre pressure?
mate cleaned his tyre all the way out on the front and then found it was only running 20psi. someone can correct me on whether this could cause the tyre to tuck under a bit?

That is possible.
Despite my taking it very easy through the Mangamuka Gorge (due to very low pressure and a roadside puncture repair) the tyre was scuffed side to side.

Don't bother telling him that... he rides off the black stuff before he worries about tyres an shit
Im sure thats what my post said...Less chicken strips on the rear compared to front?!
Should have only posted the first half of the quote... its not really about lean or steering.
Another factor I should have also pointed out, and skidmark hints at, is the rim. The width of the rim impacts on the shape of the tyre, as it can either flatten the tyre (wider rim) or make it more pointy (narrower rim pinches the tyre). This is on top of the issue of various tyre makes and models differing in profile, as the same tyre will have a different shape on different rims.

Lower pressure will cause the tyre to deflect more and therefore run alot closer to the edge.
This also means that just because there's no unused rubber (chicken strip is a bit derogatory don't ya think Dippy?) on either tyre, doesn't actually mean you're necesseraly running outta rubber to use.

I beleive that getting you knee down would solve this problem. I did, it helped me loose weight, grow new hair, develop a 6 pack, earn more money than I could ever imagine and got me loved by all.
I normally have no strips onthe rear, and a couple of mills left on the front. I am guessing you probably have weird front tyre profile, ie flatter than usual.

When he was looking at the bike he was standing at the front end looking towards the rear. So from his point of view the rear tyre was actualy his front and his front tyre his rear.
This explains it...... i bet you guys are kicking yourself for not figgering this out on your own, i pitty you fools!!!!
