After 12 months of fighting my way through the Australian bureaucracy, trying to get a permit to allow me to bring this bike into the country, I've finally reached the end of the line...and admitted defeat.

The short story - an immaculate US-delivered VX800 with less than 5000 miles on the clock is currently sitting in a customs warehouse in Adelaide, and they won't let me bring it into the country. I've got two choices - either re-export it or allow it to be destroyed as scrap metal. NZ is the obvious choice when it comes to saving it from the scrap-yard...

I've been riding an Oz version of this bike for the past 6 years and love it - and I'd hate to see this one turned into scrap. Anyone who can help save it from that fate is welcome to contact me. The bike owes me about $3000 so far...but I'm realistic about my chances of recovering much of that...so make me an offer.

Cheers...Franco (aka Slothboy)

This sounds like an interesting bike, hovever it may not be as easy to get older machines into NZ as once it was due to emmissions requirements regulations that have very recently changed, this from the LTNZ site:

Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Exhaust Emissions (the Emissions Rule) requires that a vehicle being certified for entry into service in New Zealand for the first time must have been manufactured in accordance with an approved emission standard. Its aim is to establish an exhaust emissions baseline for motor vehicles entering the country.

This infosheet explains how you are expected to prove your vehicle complies with the approved standard requirements in the rule.

The 2007 revision of the Rule requires vehicles certified for entry into New Zealand on or after 3 January 2008 to meet more stringent exhaust emissions standards than the 2006 version of the Rule. This infosheet sets out these requirements.

hopefully your bike can show it's compliance, best of luck

Hi there, did you ever sell the VX800? I'm looking for one in New Zealand.

Thanks.

and somebody reading this just may have a VX800 for sale - not from Adelaide.

It's really easy to be critical

Not being critical at all, merely pointing out a fact about the bike's whereabouts at the time of sale.
