Driving home from work tonight, blithely ignorant of the world around me...

"ooh look, there are some nice Harleys"

"oh, some more cruisers"

"hmmm, a few more parked over by that takeaway. It's like there's some bike event on or something...."

Duh. :) Oh that's right.

"Thunder" ride or "Thunder and Lightning" Ride at the Nationals?

Winds getting up now.

Thunder ride was impressive - they copped a bit of rain coming back over the Saddle, not sure what the weather was like through Woodville. And the massed bikes in the Square looked impressive.

Oh, and I now have conclusive photographic evidence that Harley riders do indeed wave.

It bucketed down during the night and we had thunder and lightening and the power went off about 2am. I didn't envy them their ride, that's for sure. Saw HEAPS of them on the road between Waiouru and Palmerston North yesterday, and more when I headed home to Levin.

Certainly not nice weather now, raining and very windy. At least their bikes are heavy enough not to blow over in the wind!

Seen them all riding down pioneer highway, very impressive, had a look at the bikes in the square. Never seen so many Harley's all in one place, awesome.
To bad the weather wasn't better.

I've never seen so many bikes in one place ... oh well maybe the Phillip Island bike park ... but hell this was impessive.

We were having a coffee at the top of the Takas on the way to Featherston (in the car) to pick up some bucket tyres when we decided to go thorough to ANZA for some of their awesome wet weather gear. Huh! We didn't know about any HOG rally did we! We were belting through the Paihiatua Track watching the clock and hoping that we'd make it ANZA by 2 before they closed :Tui:

As we approached Palmy, there were bikers everywhere. In every restaurant, cafe, motel and all over the streets. When we finally got near the square we were gob smacked by the spectacle. As for ANZA, I bet they didn't close until midnight. Those guys would have done a years turnover in one day! They'd done it well too, big ups top them. They'd moved most of the bikes out and filled the showroom with riding gear that had been indented just for the weekend . They had a huge long table full of Reviti corduras for $99 and most of the stock was discounted - that's the way to do it. Big investment/risk for them but I think it paid off. They had a band on truck in the yard, they had food and non-alc drinks too. Impressed we were.

Well that al meant that we got some good gear at good discounts - happy campers we are.

memorable for the wrong reasons?

Well dunno about you mate but I had a ball.
The lightning strike on Friday night was bloody impressive LOL
Thunder ride on Sat was one of the best yet, flowed really well with sweet FA bottlenecks and only a few minutes of rain during the entire 100km ride so whats to complain about?

As for the rally itself, well I rode down with a group of friends, 2 trikes, a Road King, another Buell and an Ultra with a side car...we took 2 days to get there and were in fine form by the time we hit Palmy.

Partied with old friends, made new friends and renewed old acquaintances.
Saturday night was a late one...making up for Friday! Then after buggerall sleep it was time to head home. AJ headed off to Welly and the other Stragglers were off to Rotorua(they had another day off work). My other mates had left waaaaaaaaay too early so I decided to take the long way home thru Wanganui and New Plymouth. Good choice cos I pretty much had the road to myself, so the Buell got a much needed workout over 600kms... yeeeeeeee ha. A great way to end a great Rally.
Thumbs up to the Central Districts Chapter :2thumbsup

That lightening strike was something else. There was no delay between the flash and the bang, so it was real close. I was told that it melted the underground power cables in the site and thats when the power went out on Friday night. Drop a thousand thirsty bikers in a town the size of Palmerston North for one night, I bet the local pubs made good trade on Friday.
Central did a great job of the nationals. The thunder (and lightening) ride was a blast. It was espcially good because I did not know that the saddle road even existed.

Agree a well run rally big ups to CD guys..especially with the minor power outage pfft

Thunder ride was superb...a bit wet over the saddle but who cares..great roads and lots of smiling waving people....lots of nice bikes to drool over in the square

Saturday night went off too..Screaming Eagle bar was great fun....

:2thumbsup again to the Central District chapter

No, I started off with a white chapter flag but half way around the mount fell apart. The bike was in the square on the northern side.
