View Full Version : Wellington: Help me at Tawa School take kids for rides (8 March)

madmal64
8th February 2008, 21:28
Right!
I have been asked to help out again at the Tawa School Gala on March 8th from 10.00am to 2.00pm.
Last year MD & myself along with some folks from the HOG club gave rides around the school grounds on our steeds. This was a bloody brilliant money raiser for the school and we were busy all day.
What the school is hoping to do is much the same as last year, which is give kids both big and small the opportunity to have a ride on a motorbike and raise some money for the school.
What I enjoyed was the buzz of the kids and many of them came back for more time & time again.
If you have an hour or more to spare and would like to come & join me at Tawa School please pm me or post here. The school will pay for petrol.
It would be great to have a few bikes here and all sizes and types would be more than welcome. The major thing is that you must be comfortable carying pillions that may not have ever ridden before and happy with kids. The riding is just around the school grounds and mainly on grass so you need to be comfortable in that situation too.
All in all its a great opportunity to show the public that us "bikers" are a bloody good bunch of people and give give them a very small taste of what its all about.

Where: Tawa School
When: Sat March 8th
Time: 10.45am till 2.00pm

It would be great to get a heap of KBers there and we could show the community what our kb community is like

I was just about to post to mark me down for an hour. Then I checked my calendar ... only to find that my mum is flying down from auckland that day for the day.

So what am I to do .... decision decisions :innocent:

It was a laugh last year I was busy with the boys wanting to go for a ride on the sports bikes and the girls on the Harleys. They did like the sound of the Ape!

Easy!
Drop the bike at the school, go to the airport, pick up ya mum, drop her at the school gala, let her buy some nice home made bikkies & scones for afernoon tea and while she is doing that take some kids for a ride.
Sorted!

Thanks mate! Can be interesting trying to pull wheelies on the grass. Had one you fella last year who said I wasnt going fast enough, so I gave it a twist on the go fast lever and wheel spun it on the grass for a good 150 metres. He never complained again:devil2: I think I might have given him the idea. He still had a smile on his face when he jumped off though.

Hi Mal,
I've done this for years now since my VTR1000 bike, but the Daytona rear seat is just not safe enough for kiddies. The F800 was an ideal bike last year.

The bikes were always the most popular event each year.

WHAT!!! No wheelies!! :Pokey:

I could see if I could borrow a Duc for the day...
Let the kiddies ride a real Italian master peice... hehe

11th February 2008, 20:44
Speaking of Italians... I can probably turn up on my S4RS and give some rides on that. Maybe I can bring a race bike as well, if you think that might be a good idea - just to have on display and the kiddies who don't want to go for a ride can have a sit on it and "pretend"?

Mate that would be great if it was possible. The more the merrier!
It would be fantastic to get a great cross section of bikes there.

There may be a 1098 around for a while. But it may end up being a v8 trike instead.
Hey if you can wheelie on the grass... go for it:niceone:
So far we have coming a .....
Aprilia Falco
GSXR
Harley Night train (possibly x 2)
S4RS
Either 1098 Ducati or 5.0 litre V8 Trike

If you can it would be great to get lots more. They are plenty of whippersnappers that would love a ride on a bike

Not being completely serious, it would destroy the poor grass.

Hell I was going to say yes, why not! As long as they could safely sit on it and have a ride.
I dont think burnt legs and mangled toes would go down too well:mad:

Ill be happy to bring it along if you want :). Im a bit worried about destroying the grass by doing big skids and wheelies.
I suppose the kids could just put there feet on top of my feet on the foot pegs. Might be abit high tho?
Could try it out in the morning with one lucky kid if its a no go then simply show it off that way we will have a vast vairety of bikes?

Mate.. bring it if you want to! I think it would be fantastic. I love the smell of 2 stroke! Hell I even followed skunk up to manfeild for a while just to smell the RD while it was humming along the road.

Mal seems to have lots of offers. Remember what the cargo is..kids aged from 4 to 12 mostly that have never been on a bike. Precious cargo.

Does your bike have a safe pillion seat/grab handles? Is the exhaust too close to a kids leg, dangerous gap where their dangling bare feet can slip into the wheel or chain?

Kids don't seem to like bikes that are too loud either.

Have fun.
