Alterbridge
After kicking out teh old singer, and gettin' a new one, Creed have turned into the strange animal we call Alterbridge.
I heard 'Open your Eyes' and was quite pleasantly surprised with the good singing, good guitar, and overal good music. Then when it got to the guitar solo, I was blown out of my seat. For a pretty current, popular band, this is previously unheard of! If this song is to judge by, the rest of the album should be great!
:confused2 :Playnice:

Nope, it's just that wherever I am it is either the edge or ZM
:gob:  :weep:
Hmm, I guess I have been too slack in my music lately, back to my Finnish Death Metal, I assume.

I have to listen to all the friggin radio stations.... :2guns: and IIRC, the single was actually released the week after they announced the break up... f*ck i hate "the rock" bloody creed nickleback alterbridge coldplay station that it is

Yep. No really good stations in NZ.
Perhaps we need to do something about it... :D

I would tend to agree. All except for Nickelback are quite reasonable. There's this famous thing floating round the net, a sample of two of Nickelback songs played back to back, and with the exception of the lyrics, they are identical!

I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease
Gotta love lyrics like that accompanied by a heavy guitar riff

Bah. Haven't really heard a good rock band in ages.
I thought I might have gotten lucky when Scott Weiland joined with the Guns and Roses boys to form Velvet Revolver, but after listening to Contraband a few times all I want to do is put on "Stone Temple Pilots - Core" - a much better album.
Still, it was fun working out the lead to Fall to Pieces - for the five minutes it took :sly:

I think you need to download some Children of Bodom, Celtic! Get Angels Dont Kill, or Repent, or anything! It's all good in the hood.

I hate nickelback. I thought there was a big joke on me where all the radio stations would keep playing it and people would ring up to request it to make me go crazy.

don't listen to this guy, you need Kissing the Shadows, and Every Time I Die.
ADK is pretty good, Repent just blows.

As long as it doesn't have overly complicated flat-fifth riffing, double-kick drum triplets and vocalists who roar instead of singing I'll enjoy it.
Unless its Slayer covers, of course. They were kind of cool. <_<

I will try to describe Bodom to the best of my abilities:
incredibly melodic heavy/death metal, they don't employ dissonance, 2 guitars plus keyboard (many great keyboard solos) and bass, the lead guitarist is the singer, his lead guitar is predominantly neoclassical shred, which he does very skillfully and tastefully, not OTT at all.
the guitars are frequently harmonised, very beautiful, they know how to arrange a song all right.
the singing? generally death metal *rawr rawr rawr* stuff, but done pretty well and tastefully. the vocals are definitely not the star attraction, rather the excellent music as a whole.
so, it would be worthwhile to try and get a hold of Every Time I Die, and Kissing the Shadows. it might just suprise you.

Sounds pretty good, apart from the obvious vocals, but I may be prepared to let that go.

GnR dont even exist now!
Guns and Roses are now Velvet Revolver, as discussed earlier.
As for Pink Floyd, a few good albums, a few shocking ones, and anyway, who knows which Pink Floyd is the real one anyway now?
But Dave Gilmour is a damn fine guitarist.

Who CARES if Justice was recorded when Jason was on holliday? It is great. Listen to 'One' and THEN edit your post, you are disgracing yourself ;)
Jamezo

I can certainly excuse the production of Justice, who the hell would want Jason's bass on there anyway? There is very little bass, incredibly low in the mix and played by the producer Bob Rock.
But the album is great! So many classics... probably more than any other Metallica album.
Want to know my top 7 played songs evar? In order:
Ceremony - Joe Satriani (just plain old nice, very pretty and technical in places)
No Boundaries - Michael Angelo (shred shred shred shred shred! very inspiring)
Altitudes - Jason Becker (there is God in this song, I am sure...)
The Trooper - Iron Maiden (good old fashioned rawk, I love how maiden sing about things like famous battles, there's not enough of that)
Every Time I Die - Children of Bodom (insanely good harmonisation, great in every way)
Man Made God - In Flames (there's some Swedish metal for ya, instrumental, 3 guitars at once... musical brilliance... incomprehensible awesomeness)
Kissing the Shadows - Children of Bodom (need I say more? pure ass-kickery)
gotta catch 'em all! go on, see if you can download them. all amazing.
