Just had knee surgery and have to stay at a girlfriend’s house as I have 3 flights of stairs to my apartment. Friend has a TV. I have never owned a TV in my life and I NEVER WILL. If it is possible, they have managed to dredge up even worse diabolical crap, than I last remember, for viewers.

Jesus wept – the stuff is an insult to one’s intelligence. Be buggered if I know how people can just sit here and ingest that shite. I have been at the computer (when possible) with back to the TV – however I wish I was deafer than what I am already! Lol.

I won’t go into programmes otherwise this would turn into a novel. However, the Ads. There are a lot of gay men out there if you go by the ads. Pick and Move – some icecream ad with 2 men and a woman in a tub. KFC Ad – all blokes, there was one other one too which I cannot remember. I got nothing against gays at all – just an observation lol. No longer do you seem to see man and female couples lol. How’s that for a different view on things. Seriously, I haven’t seen an ad yet where I think – wow that’s clever. Has anyone noticed how quickly they speak in ads?

Faaaark I watched an info mercial?? Is that what it is called? This bloody thing went on for about 20 minutes – it was so bad I kept watching thinking – it will end soon, they will tell us the price etc – oh no – I gave up on it – I asked the friend’s daughter – who advised me they can go on for a very long time.

Well I can honestly say this tv crap in the last week has in no way added positively or enriched my life lol. I want to go home now!!! Peace and quiet or my music playing.
My cat may have missed me by now!!

I very rarely watch TVNZ/TV2/TV3/Prime. Apart from motorsport, and the Late Show on Prime. I watch movies, or listen to them in the background while I work, and buy quality comedy etc from Amazon in the UK.

Broadcast TV in NZ is of low quality, appeals to the lowest common denominator or is base humour. And it won't get any better. You need cable/Sky and or Freeview. Or read a book.

As I am a guest in their home I accept their ways and it is not up to me to tell them what to do, watch etc, not do I want to. I have never felt I was missing out by not having a TV - these recent times reinforce for sure that I am missing nothing.

There are far better ways to occupy my time and mind. I look forward to having them back when I go home. LOL

Interesting point about couples in ads, there's a current advert in bus shelters for some new phone brand. It says 'create romance' with toilet window silhouettes of a guy and girl holding hands, 2 girls holding hands and 2 guys too. Obviously the first one was just added because there would've been a huge uproar if it hadn't been :rolleyes:

There's several good things on TV, A Daily Show is a goodun. But most of it is horrible, e.g. TV2 bringing back The Nanny during the news time slot. Quite a laugh really, just the sort of program someone who doesn't follow the news would watch :lol:

When I was off work sick,thank god for sky,had sports on over winter,but after npc finished dropped sports,got sick of watching the rugby over weekend and repeats during the day,enjoyed the nature,animal and discovery during the week,mind you after chemo sessions it helped you sleep.

You are so right BMW. Most stuff on telly is utter crap. I only watch a handful of programmes (recorded on HDD so I can view when I get home from work) and the news. Even the news is crap! I would stick to whatever it is you do at home. It's got to be better brain stimulation! lol. Hope u have a speedy recovery.

Can't say I agree with you all on this I'm afraid.
Why, just last night, a fascinating programme called "Family Forensics" came on.
The premise was that the father came home and announced to his family that they were all to move out of the house immediately where they would be limousined to a fancy hotel for two days.
They weren't allowed to take anything with them at all.

Whole they were away a crack forensics team moved in and went over the house from top to bottom.
They were to build up a profile of the family and the individuals within it and especially they were to '...find some secrets...'.

Now you just don't get better tv than that!!!!
Unfortunately I had to go to bed after five minutes because I had an itchy knee.

Once... it was like that. Now 10 out of 9 programs on those channels follow a very strict template with breaks to air commercial for other programs based on the same template.

And what I can't fucking stand about it these days is the amount of forced enthusiam and sensationalism they manage to stuff in there. It's no longer a sober educational programme... no, it's hype, pretense and "what if"s.

National Geographic might still be a bit better - but haven't seen it for a couple of years. Discovery has certainly gone down the drain.
