2:00pm NZ Motorcycle Road Racing Championship – Round 1 – PowerBuilt Tools Raceway.
The arrival of some two wheeled action on the show opens things up today and the first round of the NZ Motorcycling Road Race Championship Series. The Motorcycling Scene in New Zealand is very strong and often forgotten but today we have the very best battling it out on the demanding Ruapuna track.

Probably be the same as last year and they will highlight some of the other classes in one of the other rounds.
I'm greatful to see what I saw. Nasty highside for Sam but that wasn't the incident that broke his wrist/arm.
Poor Jason Hulme on the last corner and cartwheeling it.

wake up guys, do you think 90% of people that go to watch the racing go there to watch plonkers riding around on kids bikes?
NO, they go watch superbikes and 600's.
this may be hard to take , but it is fact.
and another thing..."sidecars" suck.
If they show any class other than the 600's and superbikes on TV that's my cue to go and have a dump.

I disagree
why is watching an average 600 race more interesting than the likes of a 125 or F3 race?
in the races shown this afternoon, it became clear very early on that dennis would win. The NZGP for the 125's was more interesting and the F3 one probably was too.
I like watching motorbikes go round corners fast, and very close racing. 125's go round corners faster and race closer than 600s or superbikes.
I'm disappointed that the other classes weren't shown, as it would have been great for our class (125GP) and for the sport, to see young New Zealand kids doing well.
that's my point of view, if you think I'm wrong thats your opinion, this is mine.

well Timmy, judging by the crowd reaction at the racing your opinion is a minority. The bank and spectator viewpoints fill for the superbike and 600 races and when they're over the people go and do other stuff (food, have a piss, talk smack about dragging pegs at the roundabout, checkout the bikes in the pits(lots of people look at my gsx) etc).
Sorry, but true.

Well you know what the crowd nearly resolutely said that the biggest loss to Wanganui was the loss of the classic sidecars as the Triumph boys were by far the crowd favourite!
The chaps on the Guzzi outfit were probably the most popular with the crowd that day.

If people were promised by MNZ that all classes would be televised this year, it shows just how fucking usless MNZ are.
But, if it has all been hear say, then shut up about it.
I know that if i was out sponsorship hunting and i had been informed by MNZ that all classes would be showed (im in 125GP) I would definatly add that to my proposal, and it would probably be quite a important deciding factor for a proposal (to the business)
I wonder if anyone has done so, and has now been let down, making them seem like they made fake promises to sponsors.
oh, and 125's are a shit load faster through corners than those whales (600s - 1000s) which should make them more exciting to watch. Really, the extra straight line speed the big bikes have loses its 'wow' factor real quick. How much fun can you have watching a bike in a straight line.

"Sidecars" are among the most entertaining, crowdpleasing, and awe-inspiring vehicles I have ever had the pleasure of watching. IMHO they look better up on two wheels around a corner than any two-wheeler looks doing a wheely, they drift better than a Nissan Skyline, and only they can entertain so thoroughly with freak-show passengers waving and making ridiculous hand-gestures .....no-one specific in mind .....
It's of no consequence to me that the passengers leather-clad arses are so finely displayed either ....

It doesnt piss me off too much, cause I get to see it first hand - but what does yank my chain, is when people tell their sponsors that (if they are fast enough) they will feature on TV. The sponsors take their word for it, and also hand over cash as a result. What do the poor bastards that told their sponsors do when they don't even have their class on TV?? Do their sponsors assume they are liars?? Does this break down everyones trust??

Road racing has made great steps over the last couple of years, and again this year the clubs have again decided to support the road race commission team with its marketing and promotion campaign and we will use this pool fund of money, previously prize money to market and advertise the road race championships through the medium of TV and radio.

Thanks, here we go:
Another first for 2008 will be that with the sponsorship funding we have been able to secure we will be able to arrange for all class’s of the championships to be televised. We anticipate being able to have around 16 to 20 commercial hours of homegrown New Zealand motorcycle racing on TV.
So maybe it is going to air on sky at a later date will all the classes? Hard to know, either way some questions need to be asked.
