My 10year old son and his mate were playing at local park on Sunday when 7 teenage kids came up and demanded they hand over everything they had on them or they would get a beating from them with an iron bar and some handlebars off of a pushbike.I have called police and they said come in and make a statement,as its aggravated robbery.
NOW IF I DO THIS -WHAT HAPPENS?

Do they get charged and dealt with or do they get let off and deal out some retaliation- like bricks through our windows or worse.

There identities are known.

These kids are causing a lot of trouble in the neighbourhood and its getting worse.I have had a run in with them myself in the last week. But then im not a 10yr old that cant fight back, they ran real quick when i wouldnt back down.
So what would you do in this situation,go to the police and lay a charge or just let it slide and hope it doesnt happen again?

Break their necks & hide the evidence .

2nd choice would be to call in the police

Thats the only way to stop them as the little sh-its know that we cant legally touch them.

well if you let them get away with it, they'll think they can (and they are) and will just keep on going their merry way.

If the kids are 16 or over, definitely cops.
In fact do it anyway, they will come to the attention of the cops and maybe learn something. If they don't then Karma will catch up.
Do not dish out any 'natural justice', unless you are threatened directly, then you have the right to defend yourself. But normally you will end up in far more crap than they do.
Best of luck

Psh I got mugged right outside a cop station a few years back and the cops didn't do a thing, although I'm sure there must've been cameras around cause it was by a train station and all too.

But I guess if you actually know these kids then you could get some good outta it. And then patrol the streets with a few bikers one night and give them a scare :2thumbsup.

shoot first , ask questions afterwards.
As I understand it ,if you are defending yourself or someone else then you can use reasonable force, what is reasonable will be determined @ a later date in a courtroom.
Do not get caught up in P.C. bullshit about what you can do or their rights, they have no regard for your rights so why should you give a rats arse about theirs ?

The trouble is most of them have been in trouble before stealing -drugs-assaults and they dont care-one has just been released recently from local bad boy home. ages range from 14 to 18.

If you know who they are then visit there cave and explain there actions to there parents,if its an obvious case of in-breeding then head butt the old man and all will be sorted, the cops hands are tied really. if there under age the tree huggers have made any learning skills impossible to enforce. As i say deal to the biggest fuck up in the tribe and he will bring the rest in to line, just like the jungle really:rolleyes:

Damn right get the cops involved, the coonsequences are meager enough without failing to apply them.

You might get some retaliation, great, ping the bastards again. If they aren't going to learn lets have them in pokey sooner rather than later.

Always sweat the small stuff.

+1 Cops should be called.

Glad your son and his mate are OK.

Put it this way. If you had a 14 year old daughter, what would they have done if they had caught her? Maybe someone elses daughter could be next?

Most crims start small and move on to the bigger stuff. Broken windows and all that.

I always worried about that with my eldest daughter who is now 20.And i worry about my youngest girl who is 8yrs old.
So its off to the cop shop in the morning.

And keep letting the cops know each time these lifes-rejects does something similar, encourage any decent neighbours to do the same.

Get a big list of offending built up against these slack-jawed mouthbreathing improvident lackwits and they'll get to jail that much quicker.

If you take the law into your own hands you will come off worse. If you tell the cops then the responsibility is on them. If kids get awy with this sort of thing you are basically giving them permission to carry on with what they are doing. It is true that many crims start off small and without learning a harsh lesson they may move on to the big time.

Always remember that if the police don't do enough then you should contact your local member of parliament. They are elected by you and should get involved if there is a community problem. It also helps when there are elections coming up!!

Chin up- it's not a total waste of time going to the cops, some of them are old enough for real jail time & the others aren't far from it. Just keep your kids close or let them out in groups. Hate arseholes that ruin it so others can't hang out & play as kids do normally.

They sound like true street vermin. We dont need their kind here, if you can make them 'disappear' that would be good.

But honestly i dont recommend risking your own ass over it.

I like what Bikern1mpho said, but i recon you have more chance getting away with merder.

I'd say - report it, testify, do whatever you can within the law.

If they should be brave enough to retaliate you get them again.

Not, worth getting into trouble with the law about. But just don't let them get away with it. Too much stuff like that is not reported or acted upon because people are too fucking afraid of the consequences. However, there's a consequence to not reacting and it's many times worse.

Take a baseball bat to this park for some softball.. then defend yourself if the need arises.

Out West things are usually dealt with by trashing the wanker's cars.. which is kinda pointless cause they just get you back..

Police then? And good luck?

Um, how about a mass letter-drop?

Print up a bunch of flyers warning people to be on the watch for a gang of teenage hoods who have been seen hassling younger kids, or vandalising, or whatever.

Maybe phrase it in a generic way, don't specifically identify yourself, or even them... to avoid being too confontational (brick in windowish) and not to look vigilante-ish.

Make it a general kind of neighbourhood warning, and with advice like the local cop-shop phone number.

As in "If you see these thugs vandalising property or intimidating kids please call xxx yyy zzzz to report it to the police."

(And do this yourself.)

Bung them in all the letter boxes around, to raise general awareness.

Make sure it's the cretins house too, so they know they are being watched - hopefully by everyone.

Let the local schools know, too. Get the kids warned - all their parents might learn about it.

The cops can't help if they don't know about it. If you can get the local community in on it, they'll get the message.

(Easy for me to say. I'm not there. Just trying to come up with a non-make-youself-a-police-target-too idea.)

That sounds like a good idea along with getting the cops involved.

personally i would've gone after the pricks. and got myself into trouble........

I will try this one. I took the wee fella down to the police station this morning and they took a statement,BUT without names or addresses of the offenders they dont think anything can be done.We did have one name but because we didnt have the correct spelling it was a total waste of time.So i think the mail drop idea is a very good one,as the neighbours have had a gutsful of the crap thats been going on.
We moved to town so we could send the kids to a good school but now having thoughts about moving back out in the country.A lot more peaceful out there.

i'd say go to the police reason being if they have been put in juvi before chances are they'll go there again judges or "referee's are not so soft with repeat offenders!

I rang the police this morning and gave them some more names and they know the kids involved, they said they will put it through(the paperwork) so that obviously -by his tone-means nothing will happen and the little shits will carry on doing what they want.
So a 16yr old found dead in CHCH this morning.I wonder how long it will be before one of these little shits end up killing someone?
