OK ... anyone in the know have an answer for me? What the hell has happened to the IT contracting market in Auckland. A year ago, I could have had my pick of contracts doing what I do - Microsoft and Citrix infrastructure stuff. Now - there's absolutely sod all out there. I've been looking for two months and nada. Plenty in Wellington, a shit-load in Brisbane but nothing in the City of Snails.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

If you are interested in Oz then flick me a PM. The market is mad here, I work in IT Rec for Michael Page in Syd.
Auck, guess they are feeling the squeeze. Total jobs being advertised is starting to drop. That bastard Bush and those mortgage issues are starting to spread their sickness around.

Might be able to get ya a job crashing fork hoists and fucking freight if ya want Dan. :D
As you well know, me and IT stuff don't really go hand in hand so can't help in your chosen field.

Sign of recession / crash? SFA business confidence at the moment. Wellington will lag as most of the jobs are government and it takes longer to get things moving and stopping in the public sector.

Lots of change going on at the moment. People are reluctant to start new contracts while it's going on.
I'll have to start hunting for a new permanent position (MS/Shitrix area). Will be redundant from 31st march.

Well, was offered a three month (with options to extend) contract in Brisbane today, a whole 19 hours after looking for positions over there. Start at the beginning of March ...
And so another one leaves New Zealand's shores (albeit temporarily) in search of better things across the ditch.

I've been looking at Brisbane too (network engineer)
More money to be had in Sydney or Melbourne, but Brisbane was such a nice place....

A bad move on Mr Archer's part, as he's just introduced another gay biker into the precariously-balanced mix in the office.
The green-meanie boys are now in the minority.

Your going to love it. Check out Nimbin, about 200K from Brissie but well worth it for a 'hazy' afternoon.

I take it you haven't been to Brisbane then? Mt Mee, Maleny, Mt Glorious, Mt Tambourine, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast hinterlands - pretty similar to NZ actually. Except for a bit more traffic . . .
Sanx, if you get to the above places, you'll be kicking yourself that you don't have a bike to ride.

If it has two wheels and a pulse I will ride it, if there are corners I will find them.
If not I will make some.
