Just got back from Hobart today, but earlier in the week I was cruising around Melbourne and spotted this in Swanston Street.......

.... and I still like the way you can just park your bike on the footpath.

No worries with mixed franchises at this shop in Moonah Hobart which was opposite where I stayed for a couple of days.

Where else would you see a Holden panel van this age let alone a Hillman Minx in immaculate condition on the road?

Merv! That is so very funny. Didn't know such a shop existed. Cheers for taking the time to take a pic.

Talking about paying for a sport, a guy whose name I won't devulge used to own Te Marua Speedway years ago and he had one "special" admission gate that was used to pay for his rallying (under the table, so to speak).

What were you in Hobart for Merv? Decent bikes out & about?

I was at a regular Australasian work group meeting that cycles around the Aussie States and hopefully to NZ next year so only managed to be there from Tues and came home yesterday. Very few bikes on the street there compared to Melbourne but plenty of older cars. Ended up out in the 'burbs opposite the bike shop because all the hotels in town were booked out by other conferences, but it was a bit of a dive. However, I was never out there when the place was open. Managed better accom Thurs and Fri.

Had a few hours to go shopping between flights on Tues hence I spotted your shop. No worries with the digital camera, just keep snapping when things catch your eye. I use a 128MB card in my camera which at 1024x768 res is good for over 600 pics and even though I carry a spare card I'd need to be away a number of weeks before I even had to change the card.

Melbourne seems to be biker heaven and their climate's not even that great. But they do get less rain than Auck.
Or, dare I say it, Melburnian bikers are more hard core.

Yeah especially with the rain on those tram tracks.

Yeah especially with the rain on those tram tracks.
Everyone avoids the trams, they show no mercy. Sure teach cage drivers lane discipline though.

Yeah trams can't swerve out the way. Here's a couple of pics of trams outside Deb's shop on Swanston Street.

... and just park your Aprilia where everyone else wants to walk while the trams cruise by. Why aren't we so bike friendly in this country? Oh that's right, we don't like V8 car racing either, not in Auckland at least.
