I sometimes get asked what sort of milage my bike gets...so I was wondering if anyone wanted to post their bikes milage for others to ponder.
With such a wide varity of bikes out there it just may interest folks for a number of different reasons..no mfg bashing, just sharing some info.
I'll start:
750 Honda Shadow 25 k's per liter
250 Suzuki Intruder 32 k's per liter.

As a related question, what's the best mechanical way to improve your fuel efficiency for typical around town traffic? (I'm assuming fairly steady speed, no major acceleration/deceleration, or high speed).

2000 Honda CBR600F4. After 12,090kms that I have ridden it,
- 5.48 l/100k,
- 18.30 km/l or for the oldies,
- 51.7mpg
I try and run on 98 but it's only possible to do that about 50% of the time so the above is an average across all fuels. The difference between 95 and 98 is interesting.
- 95 = 17.82 km/l
- 98 = 19.77 km/l
The conclusion therefore is that 98 is not more expensive to use than 95. I wouldn't let 91 near my bike.

21 km/l commuting on the SV. I reckon I could improve that a fair bit on a longer run.
Even taking into servicing and depreciation into account it's cheaper than public transport - but only because my tyres last forever.

Search and similiar threads have been posted before.
Over the last year on the GSX-F I get 18.8ks/L which is 51.8mph in the old money, mainly commuting, plus trips & pillion. Run 95 as 98 was worse fuel economy when U tried it a while.
RG used to return over 20Ks/l.

You've already done the conversion. Your bike's odometer is most likely calibrated in kilometres and every petrol pump I have seen in New Zealand dispenses its product in litres. It is illegal to do otherwise.

Hmmm, should I be using Imperial or US gallons for the MPG calculation? Presumably Americans use US gallons in their published specs for vehicles, but it appears posters here are using Imperial.
Anyway, since I got it in December, my GV250 has averaged:
4.3l/100km
23.31km/l
53.83mpg (US)
65.84mpg (Imperial)
All on 91.

On the Duc - as good as 20 km/l (open road, putting at speed limit, not really passing anything), down to < 12km/l (open road, having a good ride...:headbang:).
I don't ride it in town. At least, not enough to get any sort of fuel usage worked out.

The GN does 25km/L in heavy traffic
Over the holidays when my trip to work dropped from 20 minutes to about 9 minutes I was getting close to 30km/L
I'm encouraged by some of the figures I see here for larger bikes.
Part of my justification for riding was the fuel saving - I'd be stoked if I could do 20km/L commuting on a 650

11 to 14km/L on the Firestorm, about 22-23km/L on the VTR250 (being thrashed everywhere!)
Our FXR used to be about 30ish km/L from memory.
Somewhere on KB theres a fuel consumption conversion spreadsheet (km/L to MPG to L/100KM etc) and a milage calculator - I use it every fill and as a maintenance record. It even does graphs!

I'd like to some day meet the idiot who invented that litres per hundred kilometres nonsense. Completely counterintuitive, ut humiliter opinor.
What people call "intuition" is usually just what they're used to.
At least l/100 km is a measure of fuel *consumption* rather than its inverse. There was a BMW ad in America a few years back referring to the fact that they cut the fuel supply completely at high speed on the overrun. The title was "0 mpg at 100 mph". There's one ad-writer who doesn't find the mpg scale intuitive!
Anyway, as long as you remember the litre/100 km and km/l scales cross at a value of 10 you'll be sweet.

$90 of 96 does 800ks on the ZX14 (both mine or DMNTDs riding). So is a 23ltr tank that does easily 300ks with still some in reserve (not keen to run it dry just for the sake of the exercise of knowing exact milage).
Not sure what the $s per Km is, but pretty happy with it.
SV would do Tauranga to Dairy Flats, about 280ks, but I cant remember what size tank that is (about 18-20ltrs?) and that was just only hitting reserve so still had some juice in the tank.
Guess it all depends on how hard one twists the thottle, and if commuting etc, luggage, weight of rider and luggage, pillion? etc.

Is that US gallons ( 3.75 litres ) or Pommy gallons ( 4.25 litres ) does make a bit of difference I spose
Quibble: a US gallon is 3.79 litres (close to 3.75) but an Imperial gallon is 4.55 litres (quite a lot more than the 4.25 you said). So yes, it does make quite a bit of difference, a factor of 1.20.
Simpler IMHO to forget the silly things and use km/l: 10 km/l = 23.5 mpg (US) = 28.2 mpg (UK). Or even 1/100 km: 10 km/l = 10 l/100 km (handy, eh?).

Simpler IMHO to forget the silly things and use km/l:
But if you're an Olde Phart, it's easier to relate to MPG. Especially if your CakeMixaah has an imperial speedometer. With a speedo corrector fitted, due to lowered gearing.
I was shocked (!) to find out what piss-poor mileage my bike was getting. Maybe I measured stuff worngA. Or calculated the odometer correction due to the speedo corrector the worngA way round.
Still, even with those potential errors, it's about 30% more economical than the FahrtSturm. I suspect if I had it tuned (valve clearances, SV synch), removed the PCII, and reconnected the O2 sensors, the mileage might improve dramatically, perhaps in direct and inverse proportion to the smileage.

I am an old fart, and km/l are not that hard, really.
Personally, I don't think l/100 km are all that hard, either, but I know I'm in the minority on that.
Especially if your CakeMixaah has an imperial speedometer.
And you fill it up at the imperial petrol pump? I wondered why those old farts always took their Morris Oxfords and Triumph Speed Twins to the pump around the back of the local Shell. :sunny:

Yes, I didn't specify did I. I usually just ignore silly American conventions - like putting dates arse about face, so I use imperial gallons, not US gallons.
Of course one could argue why not just use litres?
Well
1) There is no standardisation of how to express the result.
2) My frame of refrence.

I've calculated both the scooter and Suzuki A100 bike.
SJ50: This was on the open road at 60k
1.24L burned in 32km.
60mpg
25.8 km per litre
8.4c per kilometre (@2.19 a litre)
3.87L per 100km
A100: This was mainly stop-start around town, with one short blat at 90.
2.2L per 54km
57mpg
24.5 km per litre
8.9 cents per km
4.07L per 100km
So the scooter comes out minutely better in this test. With that said, I know what I'd rather be riding :Punk:
If the A100 was calculated on the open road (cruising at 80k), I reckon it'd be a few MPG better than the SJ50. I plan to ave another test soon.

The ST1300 gets somewhere around 16-17 kms per litre of go juice. It could get better, but I'd be having less fun. It could get worse, which would mean I'm paying for extra fun - I wouldn't want to get caught having too much fun though!
Would it be cheaper to commute to work by car?
Who the fuck cares!
Cars: are too wide, have twice the ideal number of wheels and they lean the wrong way around corners!
Besides, every day while working I'm looking forward to the ride home - I wouldn't get that feeling about a drive in a car.

I once did rotorua to hamilton on the rd400. It used a little over 14l to do 100kms. The gb500 does about 220kms on 14 l. So its pretty contrasting between a 4stroke and a 2stroke.

The original workshop manual for my A7 optimistically advises something like 39mpg, around 6l/100km. I've never measured the fuel usage, but it's at least double that, more like triple.
Yeah the old 2 strokes aren't exactly efficient machines - of course their power delivery doesn't really encourage economical behaviour either.

Traffic light cycles normally 120 secs and some trips never out of 2nd gear. Plus there is also the odd out of town ride, 2 up, of 30-50 km where I can open it up a bit to open road speeds.
