Just throwing a concept out to you lot see what you think.
A few riders ive spoken to have issues with being too darn short for your average mid range to large bike.
Lowering the bike is always a less that perfect solution but one forced on riders by neccessity.
The other option is to get the soles of the boots built up to to compensate. Again not ideal because the boot thickness means cotrols need to be adjusted a fair bit.
BUT--what if boots were available with say 25mm thick soles
The EXTERNAL size always size 8 so no reaching back and forwards for gears. The sole heavily braced so a person with size 5 feet could have a packer fitted and still change gear normally
There were sloped cutouts in the 25mm soles of both boots to line up with gear shifts /pegs and reear brake lever. -they would only be on the insid 30mm of the sole so visually noone would notice.

I think it could work but wonder how many would be interested?

There's an excellent shoe repair store in Mt Victoria, Wellington. The most obliging chap who owns this elevated Mrs H's Stylmartins by about 20mm.

The *trick* to building up soles, as we have learned, is not to make the instep gap too small, or the boot will grab the foot peg like a clothes-peg. Platform soles will also require shift and brake levers to be set higher so that the boot can slide easily beneath.

Only if they come with tassles attached......

Apparently all new gear I acquire must have tassles or flashy bits

no mate Im thinking Flat sole like a Sidi
20-25mm thick
then on the inside edge of the sole --where the gear shift and brake lever sit would be cutouts back to normal sole thickness- The front/back edges of the cutouts would be sloped so the foot isnt "locked in place and the material would be a hard plastic
where the heel ends there would be a semi circular trough for the pegs
No need to reposition gear lever or brake lever
-------------------
The size 8 bit is so theres no need to constantly shift a smaller foot back n forwards -basicly a high tech version of stuffing paper in the toe of a boot
The braced sole would allow for normal shifting.

Size 8 ? That's no good. Alright for folk with little tiny feet, but size 8 won't fit me , even if it is XXX wide (which they need to be )

Size 8: man I'd trip over them while getting on the bike & still arse over:eek::no:
Wouldn't want to have over size boots my feet may be small but I'm not always moving my foot lots to change gear.
But a comfy quality bike boot with a good amount of sole would be awesome

Kinda like this you mean?http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1201008&postcount=58

A discussed with you before Frosty, disagree with you about the sole cut outs (I ride with toes on the pegs not my heels, and in other boots with a distinction between the heel and the sole, my boot has been caught etc etc) so IMO they are not required.

Boot maker up Paraparaumu did a fantastic job with mine, including inserts as the boot size is a 7.5 (multiple) and my feet are a size 6.

I think Her_B4 has done something similar with her boots. I wonder how comfortable they are for walking in and standing around? Yeah, I know it's not the first purpose for the boots but something we all do in 'em.

If you want a thicker sole, there's only one way to go (lad)

I used to have a metal-shod pair back in my New Model Army following days...

you asked

Always wanted a pair of those, but might be a tad tricky to wear while riding. Maybe if i was on the back?
Seriously, me suffer from duck disease and decent functional platform boots would be great!

I have a pair of army boots that I had built up. The only pitful is the fact the sole is sooooo ridgid, they can really only be worn for the ride and if attending rallies, a change of footwear is required as the feet ache after awhile. I have since changed bikes and am requiring less sole on the boot so am looking for a less ridgid solution. I also have pinetree calves, so am looking for the boot of all boots!!!!!!

Crikey! I feel like it is groundhog day!!

There are quite a few threads about regarding help on this. My earlier thread, posts and pic's were to demonstrate the extra height required for me to ride my bike (a 1098).

The boot maker did a terrific job of putting a rocker type sole on it so that I could walk comfortably, and removed the previous sole to resole properly. I had actually had then raised some time previously, but they needed to be raised further, so instead of just plastering extra sole - he completely remade, refashioned the entire sole.

My boots (as in the pic) are actually 'chaps boots' I believe, and although far too big, they do allow for a larger sized calf, and are completely waterproof to boot (get it?? he he he).:2thumbsup I am sure that a good boot maker will be able to do as mine did and fashion a sole to your requirements (including the ability to walk comfortably!)

The make of my boots is 'prexport' if that helps?
