Blakamin's mate with the Zeal wants to use them for the pre-purchase mechanical check, since he goes past them every morning on his way to work...

Is their workshop OK, or should I prevail upon the poor bastard (he's an hour out of Wellytown, apparently) to drag the bike into Boyles this week for a reliable report?

[Don't be offended if you read this, Trashy, I called WMCC first, but your grease monkeys had no spare time until middle of next week.]

Randall knows his shit! he works on everything
cant see him being biased but if ya want i can ride down at lunch time and tell him its a mate of mine buying it
there is a yamaha dealer in pram but I would never go there again coz the guy thought the zeal was a 600 when i took it there for a battery...not to mention the other stuff i've already ranted about

Randalls a decent bloke..

He's an old fashioned type mechanic in a non brand specific bike shop that caters for all bikes but does a lot of HD stuff.

If he misses something it will be fairly minor probably but remember even the best mech's don't have crystal balls or XRay vision. A bike can be running great now and blow a piston 10 mins later..

??

Part of the charm of used vehicles...

Oh, I know...

I'm not after a crystal-ball certificate of reliability. I just need someone to independently report on status of consumables, working-ness of electrics, and presence or absence of compression in all cylinders.

as of 10 minutes ago his answerphone was still saying "you've reached us after hours" - must be a 'south of the Bombays' thing :p

He might be having today off.... he DID host a bike show and a fairly large party on the weekend

Nup, Randall was there by 10, and he remembers the bike. Or maybe it was just that its owners have been so distinctively ugly... :p

I'm just waiting for Brandon to call me back now.

Also, Randall put me onto a guy who transports them around the country door-to-door for $150. At that price, I might not bother flying down and riding up.

So are you planning to join the elite ranks of Zeal riders, Jrandom-san?

Assuming Randall discovers no horrible mechanical nasties, the rego and finance check comes back clean, and Blakamin's mate doesn't sell the bike to someone else before the bank gives me my mortgage drawdown at the end of the week, yes.

Colemans have one on the floor at the moment. I took it for a blat on Friday. The engine tuning seems well-suited for a Gentleman of Substance in need of a 250cc motorcycle.

I concur. A worthy choice.

Oh, and another thing, don't drop it. The pegs are vulnerable and brittle...
