Great to hear your exemption worked out for you. My husband has applied for one but he was wanting it (he's on his L) for a 650 burgman. Did you have to specify what size you were looking to apply for or is the 600cc "the limit"?
Hope you find a nice bike!

bigger than a 600cc. So my answer is yes i asked for an exemption up to
600cc. Only being on my 6L i feel anything bigger is/ would be over board to learn on. good luck to your husband getting his. As long as hes not trying to pull the wool over there eyes i hear they are pretty good. I just stated my case and crossed my fingers.

katana 600 or maybe a bandit 650 ? they are big enough to let a person of larger stature not look silly ,they can also sit at various speeds without haveing to be red lined constantly.
whats your price range ?

So you just write in saying you're a huskier gentleman, and as such a 250 is inappropriate? Did they ask for proof of your size? Cheers.

Nope - I got a 800 on mine. Although Im sure that they look at cruisers and sportsbike differently

Anyone who wants more information on applying for an exemption just pm me, as I can help. Work for LTNZ and can advise that the more information you give the better your chances of getting your exemption approved.

Checkout Gremlins posts search under exemptions......there really helpful

I got an exemption to sit from 6L to 6F on my 1200cc one shot to pass or fail which I believe is almost unheard of but they took everything into account and allowed it....It did take a lot more phone calls, letters and photos but the ladies at the LTSA were wickedly friendly and very professional....

I passed it sweet as even though the Driving inspector really put me through the ringer......... so you got to be confident that you can do it

also had a mean laff with a local boy in blue on the test day....I think he thought I was taking the piss with a Learners on my FJ1200 :2thumbsup

if you need any help PM

Good Luck

Hope the birthday present was a good one! Insane1 kindly let us take photos of my husband on his Burgman so we were able to give "comparison" shots of that (side on and back on shots) between the scooter and my wee ginny (which he's currently riding). My husband weighs 100kg and has a very broad chest and shoulders so he can't see the mirrors on the GN - we went mainly with this as a safety issue for the exemption. We're still waiting to hear the outcome - he rang them for a status report only to be told it would take 20 working days (gulp) so the earliest he'll probably hear anything is the end of this month. Waiting with fingers crossed!

If you were able to get the excemption to stretch to 650cc then the BMW F650 is worth a look, roomy, dead easy to ride and no nasty suprises to catch a newer rider out. Depends entirely on whether you want that particular style of bike though, I have to admit they do nothing for me, although they are nice to ride.

Happy birthday for the weekend!

Yea that was the hardest part for me was the waiting. If i had gone just looking for 250s then found a good one, bought it, only to find i got an exemption.:crybaby: Or looked for a bike of some size found one and waited to find that i didnt get it:blank:. But the wait is worth it.
