Hi All,
I was down at Paeroa and had lots of fun taking photos of the races. I thought I would share it with you guys especially the ones that didn't make it down there.
Some of the shots aren't that great and I know a lot of the shots are off the same riders. I'm not biased towards them but that's just how the shots turned out. I kept on taking photos when the first bikes started coming through for each race and I guess the front group pretty much stayed at the front so I got the same bikes. I guess something to take into account for next time.
Anyway, here's the link

Some fantastic shots there. Only thing I can suggest is to try and get shots of everybody, not just the same riders over and over. There's lots of people on this site that race and only a very small number of them are at the front. Variety is good.

Agreed. I only realized I had taken shots of the same rider the whole day when I got back. It's definitely something to work on. Also the way it works I really only get a very limited of attempts to get the shot right. I'm still not that good so I had to take a huge amount of shots (1000+) just to get about 20 shots that were any good.
Anyways, I'll do better next time ;)

I was so busy shooting the races I didn't even really get a chance to have a look around the paddock to check out the other bikes and the brolly chicks.

For sure. Me and my brother took 600+ at Wanganui. Got some very nice shots though (for total amateurs that is) of most of the people we wanted to.

Speaking of which, I snapped a total of 594 photos on Sunday. If you raced in F3, Formula Paeroa, Sidecars or SuperMoto, chances are I have at least 1 picture with you in it. PM me or post your race number & class in this thread and I'll dig out anything I see.

Here are a couple of shots I took. First one shows Gunner's best result of the day - I had been holding an Umbrella over Troy but got made redundant by this sweet young thing! Second pic is of the "Marty's Boys" pit - shows team boss Sparky Bills contemplating putting Powerade in the tank.

Sadly there's some truth in this. I actually took some shots of back markers because there was a gap between them and the main pack so had some time to get ready for the shot.

I didn't want to creep the girls out any more than my presence normally does. Besides, there were plenty of other pervs who had that market cornered.

Ahhh but in all fairness those back markers are still lapping probably twice as quick as I could do it (probably more!!) so good on 'em for getting out there and doing it !:headbang:

Looks like you need to clean your sensor. There are spots showing in some pics e.g. 4490

Good spotting (get it? OK. I know that was lame but couldn't help myself). I only noticed that after I uploaded the photos. Dust is such a pain in the butt. I always get photos with dust spots.

Fortunately for me I just need to get into a habit of cleaning my lens after 15 minutess when shooting. Of course it's not something you think about when you're having fun out in the field.

Enjoy the wonder of digital photography. It doesn't cost you anything to find out that your photos were crap unlike the old days were you had to get them developed before finding out.

Nice shots guys. It's cool to see shots from other angles. The day just wasn't long enough for me to go around the whole circuit. I wished it was a two day event :) With the races so close together it doesn't give you a lot of time to switch positions.

Good question. I bought a Canon 40D with a Canon 100-400 professional telephoto lens thingies. While it's way beyond my current capabilities, it's a fantastic bit of kit. The lens is outstanding... literally, and herein is the problem. It's just too big and heavy to carry around on the bike when your more inclined to take photos of stuff.
Big Dave has the answer. Compact, good kit.

I have always used a SLR - film and now digital, found an inexpensive camera backpack, to store all my gear in, then if I'm on the bike I take what I need and fit in the tank bag... I have a separate carry bag for the lens so it does not get damaged.

I use a Canon EOS 400d with either a 18-55 or 75-300. Too bloody hard to carry on my bike, so I have a sony compact in the bum bag....
