I have issues with my bike. Its an '89 ZXR400H1.
I have been to the Kawasaki local dealer and after Arguing about the chassis number and finally making the ignorant fuck look himself at the number stamped on the steering head he was unable to provide me with any prices on parts..or any info fullstop....he now avoids me like the plauge... His computer system had no info wot so ever, and his paperwork had the bike listed but also had no info. After much wailing and knashing of teeth I finally got his apprentice to email Kawasaki NZ for a full PD breakdown of the bike so I can obtain the parts I need....or atleast prices. BUT still I wait to hear back and I have finally given up. Having only ONE kawasaki dealership in Blenhole im kinda stuck....and I don't have the time atm to shoot over to Nelson or down to CHCH to scamper around looking for parts/ manuals etc. Can anyone suggest a dealership that I can contact that actually has info on this type of bike and stocks parts for it...IE..cam chain, brake rotors, etc. I also have a major issue trying to find a manual...as most I have come across on the net are either in japanese or german....and I am yet to see one in person. Its begining to drive me up the wall and I really want to treat this bike to a new cam chain. I beleive the manuals etc are the same for the H2 L1 thru L9 models but yet again am unable to confirm this as only having one kwaka dealer in blenheim thats a complete fucking egg makes things difficult.

Dont you have telephones and courier services in the South Island?

If its a Japanese market bike (used import) it might be unrealistic for a NZ dealer to have any info about it. Its possible there is not actually an english manual for it - thats not his fault is it? Probably up to you and its not impossible to find stuff out on the net. eg - the FZR400 I rebuilt the top end on - I ended up buying the parts in the USA at a considerable saving - found a manual etc online.

A couple of years back, I had a lot of probs getting an English workshop manual for my car. I eventually found a website specialising in translations of manuals. I will have a dig around and see what I can find. Hopefully your bike is not too old.

The guys I used to get model/part/manual info seem to have dissapeared.

This is probably a good place to ask about getting the right Kwaka part numbers or clones with prices.

Shipping them in from the USA is usually the best option.

Give these guys a try. they specialise in 400 cc bikes and they also support a race series for grey market japanese bikes.

i use this site alot but some of the models that we get aren't imported into the states so it might not be listed. i think the 400 cc bike falls into the category

Gidday Nade,
Why the hell are you bleating - you are riding an old "grey import" Kawasaki & you live in small town N.Z

Different story if you were on a KVF 650, I'd expect...

The only Dealers you'll find that will have any info on your bike are ones that have actually had significant call for parts for that particular model in the passed & been proactive enough to actually buy the parts catalogue from the distributor, themselves - i.e. Road Bike Dealers

The distributor will keep a very small amount of "High Turnover" parts in there inventory but you will find the bulk of what you require will be "Ex Japan" if available at all, anymore...

Are you aware that the service life of a Japanese Domestic Market model (which is what you are riding) is seven years from the date of model run manufacture...?

To expect a small town N.Z dealer to have parts for a 20 + year old Import on the shelf is simply niave

You can do yourself a favour by having the correct chassis # on hand every time you vist a Dealer - the L.T.S.A vin plate # is of no use what so ever to the Dealer, they need the actual chassis # which in your case will be ZX400H-(6 digit #)

The Dealer will then have to contact the Distributor for the required information - this may take a day or so to process, & don't for one second believe that you are the only person in the country doing this because you aint...

I wish you luck in your search for bits mate, but I.M.H.O I think your attitude stinks :tugger:

Cheers

I think you have the wrong man. i'm just pointing the original poster to a site that does supply those bits. my comment was also to point out that the american kawasaki owners site does not have information about grey imports.

i think you need glasses because you obviously have been doing :tugger: this too much!!

Arghhhhhh so your "that" Richard...

Crap way to make your acqauntance Im sorry - but enjoyable none the less

I have watched Dereks progress with great interest for some time now & really enjoyed him giving the "Big Boys" a bloody good shake up at Wanganui on the "10" this year

One hopes you'll be running the bike at the Nationals in a couple of weeks time where the track may well be better suited to it "stretching" it's legs ?

Cheers

Geez dude, I gotta say its a bit rough to come onto an internet forum and slam the local dealer without giving them a say, your post was very onesided, and as many have already replied, it is not realistic to expect full dealer backup for a 20 year old bike that was never imported by Kawasaki NZ in the first place.

The dealer in question I have since discovered after talking to a couple of other dealers in Nelson is noted as being the worst case senario. Poor sevice, lack of parts on hand for road bikes and total disregard for repeat customers. But thats another story.....im not the only person in this town (or Nelson) to have nothing nice to say about the guy.
An independant mechanic has since been able to provide me more info etc and point me in the right direction....as well as looking after our club members.
Thanks to those guys from KB who have also helped me out by providing me with micro-fich and manuals on CD. Very informative.
And being the net each to their own

PS...I wasn't after the parts at the time..I was after a price for parts...which he couldn't do...or more simply couldn't be bothered going to the hassel of finding out.

After an e-mail sent off to Oz it appears this bike was imported into oz in numbers. They have parts on the shelf for it and those they don't have can be gotten from Japan with a 2-3 week turn around (due to customs etc.) from order to landed on my door step. They were also able to confirm the manual I have on CD...which is in japanese... is the correct one...and they have an english version....so we are on the same page..so to speak. Very helpful and only took them 3 hours to get back to me from the time I sent the email till they contacted me back with the prices etc. I will be using these guys again.
I have contacted the local dealer and asked if he managed to get intouch with kawasaki NZ about the prices I asked him for over a month ago. He said no he forgot.:argh: needless to say I won't be going back to him....

So in a few weeks once I get back to work there will be a new cam chain...guides....and eventually brand new front disc's arriving. It'll be just like xmas!!!:drinknsin
