View Full Version : Has anyone else gotten abuse from Wilson's carpark employee?

Just rode my scoot into a Wilson's carpark in town, I pay $4000 a year for the space, and I alternate between car and scoot. So, being a reasonable sort of person, I tend to park on a space that a car couldn't use, this leaves one more free car space for my co-workers.

Anyhow, this guy is undoing a firehouse at the end of the carpark, I park as normal, then he wanders across and starts swearing at me - seems he was about to clean the space but the "fucking biker" is in his way.

So, I park the bike somewhere else, he continues to swear and yell at me.

I gave him some lip back (of course). He points the hose near me, but is wise enough to not spray me or scoot. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that the guy is a beer short of a dozen.

So, I've called the Operations Manager for Wilsons to let them know my view. Has anyone else had this happen from this retard? If so, let me know - I got the impression that Mr Sunshine didn't like bikes/bikers for some reason and I'll bet this wasn't the first time.

MBB.

OK, seriously, man, what is it with calling your gixxer a 'scoot'?

Are you Murkn?

Long story. If you say GSXR1000YZFR1ZX10R, non-bikers eyes glaze over. If you say scoot, they assume scooter. Which is non-threating. And I'm secure in my masculinity. If anyone asks what I ride directly, bikers get told the truth, non-bikers get told a slightly modified vespa.

The BDOTGNZA need to firmly set their rules. It wasn't too long ago when they were accepting this "arcane" word.

My bad. I say Ta - may - to and aluminum too. Too much American influence I think (actually, it's So-Cal influence, which is different from the rest of the US).

Yes, quite. That's why I'm annoyed. I pointed the fact out to the guy early in the discussion, he seemed to have failed the required logic courses to make the connection between what I was saying and his situation. He will likely rethink once he hears from the Ops Manager.

Did you notice that the government has just imposed tougher sentences for Taggers?

I'm thinking of stabbing some errant cagers who risk my life. I wonder how long it will be before the sentences increase for them.

And while we're at it - country music and shortland street. And boy racers with big bores.

In case anyone misses the humour inherent in the post - I'm joking, I don't advocate stabbing people as a resolution. Knives are dangerous, you can slip and cut yourself. Use firearms instead :Police:

It'll be just as successful as the anti-smacking bill. This Government is so out of touch.

But back on topic, talk to his boss and if that doesn't work, yell back.

that is briliant man, I will start using that from now on.

o and I havent met the fucker you are talking about but sure he wont be happy if he saw me, and may get some fire house water on him.

one thing i'm wondering - wilsons have designated motorcycle parking dont they coz I've parked there. Why don't you just park in the designated space - it is usually closer to stairs or doors than car parks or dogy corners anyway.

O and if you see that retard next time dont be so nice to him. The responsibility to keep biker reputation as short tempered and dangerous reasts on your shoulders my friend (coz I'm not helping :))

good on you for sharing

Government? Or benevolent dictatorship?? No wonder so many of us are leaving for Australia (I think about it twice a day...).

Me too however not Australia. I have a few commitments I need to see through before I leave. If you don't have too many ties to NZ, you should do it. You won't look back.

I earn for summers in San Anselmo or San Rafael in Marin County. The US has such big downsides though. Gun carrying crazies, Dub-yah Dee Bush, housing taxes.

Australia is 3 hours away... I have Seek notifying me of jobs in Brisbane and Melbourne...

Well, if its good enough for Shaksper then its good enough for the English wot I speak.

And added to my lexicon - all bikes to be called "skates" to render then even less threatening, even slightly comic.

Not comic - the parking dude. Make sure you ask for a reply in writing to ask what their actions to stop the abuse of customers is.

If you get no luck from the Ops Manager - in my experience, Wilson's don't give a flying toss about customers, there are very few alternatives in the CBD - tell said Ops Manager that in future, you and your scooter will be using a full park to yourself. Since you have paid for it, you might as well use it. This will reduce his possible return for those days on which you take the scoot, which is pretty much all Wilson's care about.

When I was unhappy with them - ie. the time they closed a carpark down for good when my car was legally parked in it and then towed it - I spoke directly to the NZ MD about how I saw things.

Unlike the minions I passed through to get to him, he was apologetic from the get go and I got out of it not only my money back and compensation, but loads of film ticekts and freebies. Which was just.
Minions and gatekeepers may not care. But get to someone at the top and talk to them directly. If you post a letter to them and suspect they do not see it, make sure you talk to them and then re-send a copy by fax if they claim not to have it handy.
I your case I doubt you want the hassle, but if you do 'go large'.

Scoot is happily chained to a full sized park right now. One of the other guys has his bike in another full sized park. Like you said, we pay for it.

I check on Scoot about 8 times per day - it's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's my happy place in the Dilbert Hell I live in.

I keep trying to convince myself that's the case. I've lived overseas quite alot, and I'm always happy to be home. For a week or two... I just feel like the country that we had is slipping down the gurgler. Increased violent crime, less common sense, more red-tape, more traffic, less money at the end of each month. The last time I was in Melbourne, I didn't want to come home. The last time I was in Surfers, I didn't want to come home. Couldn't wait to get out of LA though, went to the airport early... :)

Last time I was there a huge guy followed me down the road for 100m screaming in my face "you're a phony man, an phony".
But he was wrong - I [I]really didn't want to give him my money, and, as I didn't, thought that I was "keeping it real" - as he would've said.

You can't please all the people, but in LA they are all nuts.
NZ is great. Every time it gets worse here, you'll find elsewhere has slipped even further.

Complain is all you can do, petty power hungry people do these jobs because it makes them feel really good about themselves.

PS: "gotten" is bound to get you a ticking off from Hitcher!

My dear you could not be more wrong if you tried!

I am Canadian, raised by a Canadian English teacher, and I can assure you that Americanisms are NOT OK, and not mainstream accepted there either :oi-grr:

James!! No, very rarely get yelled at, but I hate bullies. This asshole today thought that he could be an asshole and get away with it - he was basically trying to be a bully. The best defense is to take their power away. I could have stood there, traded insults, or even gotten into with him - but I bet risking his job will drive the lesson home better. Same with mr Truckie, he thought he could get away with it. A few years ago, I would have given him a more physical response, but I grew up...

When are we going for another ride buddy?

Well, when you make noise, sometimes someone listens.

So far Wilson's has been very proactive. I've had a good response - I followed the advice (thanks for that everyone), and they've shown the correct level of concern. 10 out 10 thus far.

I got a call from the cleaning contractor, he asked for details, and listened to my version. I was completely straight up with him, and told him what I thought should have happened. He obviously thought I was being reasonable, so employee of the month guy is getting some help with his obvious anger management problems. reading between the lines, it seems the guy has a general problem, but I'm not sure if it's directed at bikers; I think I was just the lucky candidate / target for abuse that day.

So, to recap - like an Aesops fable, everyone has gotten their just desserts.

Perfectly cromulent archaic English word. The term `ill-gotten' is about all that's left of it these days, but nevertheless it's fine to use, if a little old-fashioned. Many seem to use it ungrammatically, though.

Everybody is always nice to me wherever I park. Even parking wardens. Must be to do with the Honda. Nicest people, etc. etc.
