View Full Version : Blank out rep points start of every year

ManDownUnder
21st February 2008, 13:46
At the moment we have a system of longest serving basically being at the top of the list for whatever reason.

I say blank the things out at the beginning of every year and let them accumulate as they may. For those that care about rep points the tallys shown will mean something, and for those that don't care they lose nothing.

That seems reasonable. Interesting idea.

Sounds like a good idea! But could it be mixed with a system of recognising length of service as well, like a special symbol? I kinda respect you guys and girls that have been around for a while .......:2thumbsup

edit: Oh yeah and the annual "race" for rep, I see as another excuse for people to talk more crap, as if we need encouragement for more... :thud:

edit edit: And you realise people will loose their repping "power", i.e. what their rep is worth as well, as your reputation is based on that over and above others things... I reckon the people with reps worth 60 odd point will squirm.

It's got little to do with who's been around the longest. The people accumulating loads of rep are those who rep each other on a daily basis.

Nice people (like myself) should of course receive plenty of good rep.

And why not I say - even when I post a lot of bollocks I am doing it in the nicest possible way ....

bollocks |ˈbäləks| (also ballocks or bollix) vulgar slang chiefly Brit.
noun
1 [in pl. ] the testicles.
2 used to express contempt, annoyance, or defiance.
ORIGIN mid 18th cent.: plural of bollock, variant of earlier ballock, of Germanic origin; related to ball 1 .

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back on topic.

I understand there are benefits to Rep Points - acknowledgement by your peers of a thread well done, or a significant contribution etc - but in anopther year what does that matter?

Nobel Lauriats manage to find it in their hearts to start over - see who this years contributors are... I'm not sure we're of that calibre are we?

Zero the things out. Start over - who knows.

I think it has its place and I do like the idea of it being cleared each year but with something for long service to the site and bikers.

I have found some of the drivel and the off topic stuff quite funny and think there are some right comedians on this site and have blinged them from time to time. I also believe though that all the good people know who the few idiots are and just ignore them and stay away from them anyway.

When I came back to this country I didn't know any bikers. I met White Trash at WMC and he put me onto this site. I now have some of the best friends I could ever ask for through him and this site. So I stick with them and ignore anyone that doesn't fit in with them. So I think you know the kind of people that have genuine Rep to you and those that don't

The Rep I have received has been very much appreciated and I thank all of you that have.

So I vote for MDU's idea with the added bit for long (good) service.

I know, I know!

Rather than going back to zero, anyone who has been here more than a year gets reset to the equivalent in red bling.

Lets see the long term "I'm really important on an Internet site whores" get back in the green within a year. Might lift the tone a bit.

Mental Trousers should be reset to the equivalent in green, just to piss him off, and net red bling holders should be set to zero and their avatar changed to a sheep.

What about some consistency then? We've already have a standard set in that the post count doesn't include any rep for post in Rant and Rave.

Let's just wipe out all rep points gained in Rant and Rave.

There'd be a huge pile of people who lose crap points that way.

tbh, I like bling...well, I like green bling..not too keen on the red stuff. I like to see it in my user cp and I like to read the comments that people have issued with it. Sometimes I think that the rep comments are so good they are worthy of bling in their own right.

How many threads or posts have there been that relate to the rep system? There's always someone moaning about not having enough (usually green) or having too much (usually red.) I don't think it's the rep that gets people going, it's the comments that are directed at people. Both negative and positive.

Okay, as a long term gatherer of rep points based on my ability to offend many, I say get rid of the rep system, not needed , its pointless, causes hassles for the Mods, waste of space etc etc.

I'd bling you but that'd just be contradictory!

The problem I see with the system is that people can receive the "reward" without actually earning it. If I want to earn loads of bling in a hurry, I only need to find 10 people who're prepared to give me bling everyday and I will do the same in return for them. BAM! Bling increasing rapidly.

I have no problem with people receiving bling for a post that adds value to the site. This is subjective anyway because different posts give value to different people.

Funny you should mention that; I am at the moment completing my doctorate in science and basing it on my studies of fluff and dust found on the human body. There is some deep and meaningful questions that needs to be asked:

- Why is all dust grey?

- Why is the fluff between the toes black?

- If you find fluff around the anus, what colour would you expect it to be?

- Is the ones who have a outward navel missing out in life as a result of not being able to gather fluff?

- Why does not all body cavities gather fluff? (Nostrils...)

- Is navel gazing satisfying and rewarding long term?

To mention a few.

If you don't care, why is he a fuckwad ? If someone disagrees with me thats his opinion (there are no wimen on this site, All quote notifications are "He quoted",) I'm allowed an opinion too. Expressing it with bling or reps takes a bit more effort . But who cares . Why worry about a green or red rep really. Its for amusment isn't it. Not eveyone is able to see it.

That's the whole point - if he had summat to say, why don't he say it the thread?

I like the ability to be able to lolooo with someone or a quick note of thanks for a good quip - real easy.
Never see or dispatch the red.

As far as the total goes: Over. It.

nothing said here will influence anything

Thats soooooooooooooooooooo damn right, this place is just full of opinions.
Get 1000 people in a room and one says ''its going to rain tomorrow''
some will agree, some wont....
The rep system WILL stay, its apart of Kiwibiker, you can chew this over for the next week and beyond, nothing will change.

No must disagree here the weather is getting cooler. Otherwise your onto it.

If you get rid of rep, you can get rid of infractions as well.
