Should put you in touch with my daughter, she has a pic of her studylink 'contact' on a dart board and uses her for target practice. Welcome to the real world mate. This is the sort of crap that some of us deal with everyday!
As a future earner, you might like to learn how to use spell check if you cant actually spell.
This message brought to you by an apprentice of the BDOTGNZA Enforcement Division.

well - you could always get a job as opposed to complaining.
Thats how the rest of us survive Is there any reason that students should be any different. Sitting with not enough money for 2 weeks is not a good or smart position to be in.
And as for funding future earners - pfft dont start me on that.

Mate you aren't the only one pissed off with them. I don't qualify for an allowance or accomodation supplement because my parents earn too much. Apparently it doesnt matter that they don't help with my rent, or speak to me for that matter (which I have witnesses to verify) and that I'm stuck with dental bills worth more than I care to disclose. I'm claiming everything I can under the living costs (and racking up some lovely debt), but $150 a week is only just enough to pay food and rent. I'm pissed at the fact that I have to cram in around 20 hours of work into an already busy week to make ends meet when theres a shitload of people who are in considerably more comfortable circumstances and get "free money." Chin up though, soon enough you'll have a qualification and we can all bugger off somewhere else to earn the money we dream of making while dining on 2-minute noodles and beans on toast.

EH...no. I was 2 years into my 4 wasted years when they first introduced student loans (motherfuckers). They couldn't process them fast enough so there were lots of people waiting for months to get the peso's.
As for too many students now...yes. Courses should be linked to jobs. There's always a shortage of good science and engineering graduates and yet the courses are always under subscribed. Too many job dodgers going for easy $hit like psychology or media studies.
Working and studying...oh my heart bleeds. I knew guys and gals who literally worked the equivalent of full time hours whilst studying and yet they'd rather starve than go cap in hand to mummy and daddy. As the kiwi's keep telling me....they need to HTFU.

Yes, certainly.
Holidays are a different matter, and you have to work then anyway because your loan and allowance stops over the holidays if they are longer two weeks, or maybe three, I can't remember.
During uni a decade ago I worked just 5 hours a week at the supermarket to keep my foot in the door, then when holidays came I grabbed all the shifts i could, nearly full-time.
A good arrangement.

Full time work and full time study is hard, and your grades will suffer unless you happen to be particularly gifted or experienced in a given subject. But it's Not true that you can't work part time, study full time and get good grades. Just requires god old fashioned hard work is all.

But seriously its the comments he made about us "investing in the future earners of NZ" - which is (of course) bullshit and its that which I find annoying.
Going to Uni has no indication of future earnings - there are a lot of uni students with piss useless degrees. There are a lot of people who have no deg who earn a ton (and therefore pay huge tax).
A lot of them (possibly not the poster - but he did infer) want to be invested in - then piss off to Aust - which would make them a poor investment!

I am currently working permanent night shift - 5 on 4 off, 7pm to 5.30am.
I am also doing a full-time C-Cat instructor course - Mon-Fri 9am til 4pm. Admittedly it's only for 12 weeks, and I'm 4 weeks into it, but it's hard work....
My point is, you can work and study - you just need to prioritise.
Yes this is very true.
