Hi I have brand new TT250R, used for commuting to and from work in the city during the week and on the weekends trips to Piha or in the other direction out Port Waikato ways. This is my first bike and would welcome any tips and ideas on improvements that could be made to my bike, and do you's think the Dunlop 605 tyres currently on the bike are suitable for the amount of riding I do on the road or is there a more suitable tyre that I should use?

Sorry, I've no experience on the Dunlops but a read of the tyres sticky would be worth while.
Just ride the bike for a while and you will soon find the good and bad points of the tyres and bike, as you develop your riding skills you will find yourself either wanting more off-road experience or more road oriented riding.
You've picked a great bike to start on, come on some of the rides (like the newbys ride to Kawhia) and enjoy the scenery.

Provided you don't want to go too , the D605s are fine on the road in both wet and dry conditions. My TT-R came with them, and I kept them for about the first six months. I swapped them for D606s, which have a bit (a lot) more off-road bite, because I mostly use mine for trail and adventure riding, with a wee bit of commuting. For on road use I wouldn't have modded mine at all, if you get a bit more adventurous you'll probably want a bash plate, as the belly of the beast is a bit exposed:shit:.
