Seems the tall poppy syndrome has gotten so out of control its unreal.

I just said the same thing to my husband about offering advice to people that have asked a question, you then get told you're wrong, got ripped off etc and they are in the right without listening and trying to fathom that several people can get different results from the same thing. (oh and you get what you pay for). Rant over.:bash:

So many whingers and whiners how stuffs wrong. Not one of em is prepared to stand up and show how anythings soposed to be run/done.

I knoiw exactly what you mean.
Some people are full of "it should be done better..." but never ever put their hand up to offer to help, or organise anything themselves.
It is easy to be an armchair critic, a whole lot harder to do the job.

It's not just this country mate. The world's full of whingers and wowsers.

As long as you can look yourself in the face every day who gives a fuck.

I do. When good people say "ah fuck ya's, I'm outta here" because the gratuitous whinging has destroyed their enthusiasm for putting stuff on for all to enjoy/benefit from. Then I give a fuck.
How dare the naysayers have that 'power' when none of them will take up the challenge of doing something for all...

Why bother? What a stupid question. I have seen the smiles and admiration of people you have helped over the years. Be it retreiving a bike broke or getting people on the track.

Yes there will always be detractors.....Its good ole NZ afterall. But there will also be some mighty grateful people. Try not to focus on the negative

westie

I believe that most of the time whingers and whiners move on but in some instances they dont.

Its kind of like skidmarks on undies. No one wants to deal with them but they just hang around and dont go away!!!

Deano

Someone's got to do it Frosty, or it won't happen. Now that's a scary thought. For me with cliff hanger the positives outweigh the negatives - there are always a few who are not happy - constructive criticism is good but whingers can just eff off.

The day that it stops being fun for me, (negatives outweigh positives) I'm out.

I hear you Frosty and its a very common issue. My approach is to just carry on despite the whingers and tell them that if the rides (or other events) I'm organising doesn't suit them then no-one is forcing them to participate.

Keep up with what you are doing. You have far more supporters than detractors. :2thumbsup

I agree Janet. They always trying to tell people how to run it, do it or if it should be canned or they think they know it all,but never add any value/contribution to it from themselves. If they think they can do better do it themselves ....... but hangon:scratch: that takes time effort commitment organisation. They always think they can do better.:tugger:

Im not talking about me at all here.
An expat kiwi freind of mine came for a visit. He's overseas doing pretty well in a venture that could/should have been a Kiwi only deal. He told me he just couldn't deal with the petty beurocracy and lack of vision here.

There are two kinds of people in this world...those who get off their arse and "do", and those that sit around and bitch.
Forget about the second category, they are not worth the mental energy.

They are two minor groups - the vast majority of people in this world are happy to do nothing...and say nothing. To just live their lives doing what they want to do,and thinking their own thoughts....they are happy in life, and nothing needs to be changed.

Oh for fucks sake - the tall poppy syndrome.... Sad excuse for people to behave poorly because they percieve themselves as 'special' and somehow deserving of special treatment. It does not happen more here than anywhere else if it happens at all. Do you think Michael Faye and his fellow robber barrons really give a fig what the press or others say about them? Pfft! So lets say you turn on an event, service or somesuch that you thought was needed - you go to extreme lengths to do it right (in your eyes) and all you get are complaints - well perhaps some of them are justified and some aren't - thats the way of it - some people are idiots but eveyone gets that, not just the tall poppies. On the other hand - remeber you might NOT have done a good job of satisfying your customers - return business will generally prove if you got it right. If you did screw up, no matter how hard you worked you simply got it wrong, tall poppies got nothing to do with it.

However - just because a person does one clever or good thing - it does not give them a free ticket to be a cunt in all other aspects of their life. What about the Russell Coutts etc? Hero to zero, was he a 'victim' of the tall poppy syndrome? NOPE he traded his popularity for more money and paid the price. I'll bet he is well satisfied.

It's weird that we still have a culture that knocks down high achievers and suchlike because the general rule with American culture which everyone is trying to adopt is that if you have an asset, flaunt the fucking hell out of it and piss everyone off, cause you're worth it. Blang blannnnng!

Bigger markets with different expectations. You have to deal with reality the way it is in your place - not the way you would like it to be (unfortunately)

Motu

I believe the problem lies (pun intended) deep in how this country is run - we vote in a government that ''does'' things, and then we pay an opposing party to criticize, ridicule and otherwise undermine the party in power. This is called democracy and is a flaw of western society.I propose a new political party where no one will be able to criticize another person,no one will be able to start another business without my approval, and everyone will be employed.I'm going to call it communism - and I expect everyone to be happy.

Be happy........or disappear forever....

FROSTY

Frosty - I doubt that you are good enough at shit flinging to consider going into politics. ;)

It might make for a pleasant change though...

As for running a company in NZ.
It's not a huge market.
It's fairly isolated.
Parts of the infrastructure is laughably inadequate.

You can run a business here of course - but if you have an excellent idea for a new company truth be told you are likely to be able to find a better place to start it up.

Onomatopoeia is where a word sounds like what it is: like "bang", or "fart".

I'm not sure whether their is an actual word for someone who bags someone for bagging something. Creating such a word could be our challenge for the week...
