CBR RR headlights

:scratch:I've been looking at my bike's headlight setup and decided it needs modifying. On low beam, the left light is on (hardwired, so there's no off option), while the right side illuminates on bright. The reflectors are different, and the lights feature single-filament bulbs.

I'd like to have both sides illuminated on low beam, ditto high beam. Has anyone tried this (and succeeded), or does anyone know of a kit which has equivalent reflectors, wiring etc?

What sort of bulbs does it run? You may find it is single filament on each, that sort of thing.

Once broached the idea at my shop, and they said it would be a decent amount of trouble... so I never wasted time finding out, and put HID on low beam instead :banana:

Yep, it has single filament bulbs on both sides.
I'd have no trouble fitting dual-filament units and modifying the wiring, but the reflector looks quite a bit different and casts the light higher up and in a narrower, more focussed beam. I'd therefore really need to find a morror-image version of the left reflector before getting too enthusiastic.
It just looks unbalanced with only one side illuminated but it's probably one of those things I'll get used to over time.

It's actually done that way to make the bike safer.

With both on you could easily be mistaken for a cage a long long way down the road when in fact you're 50 metres away. Not good in the city.

Less of an issue with high beam blasting as you usually dip it for oncomming cars so many bikes (like my CBR) just put both on for high beam.

Every time I saw a bike with 1 headlight on during the day I used to think the other one must be blown... I bet most cage drivers do too.

Has anyone been pulled over by a cop for having one headlight out???

If I had a dollar for every time someone came up to me at the gas station and said "hey mate.. your light is blown" I'd be able to afford a 1098R.

Never happened to me on the Blade, apart from my 12 year-old cousin thinking he was a smart arse and pointing it out three days after I bought it. Personally, it never bothered me as when riding it, I didn't spend all that much time hanging over the front staring at the lights.

As for modifying it - I think you'd be daft to try. Manufacturing new reflectors for the inside of the light units would be extremely difficult. You'd have to do both too, as you need different profiles for low and full beam which you'd need to work designs for both into each unit.

Ain't that the truth! It's ironic, but after posting this thread merely as a matter of curiosity, I was chased yesterday afternoon by a young and enthusiastic WA cop for bloody miles, because he'd noticed that one of my lights wasn't working. Five minutes of explanation and reassuring the cop that my bike is in perfect working order later, I was back on my way.

Thanks for all you input, guys. My question has been answered and I won't be buggering about with the lights after all.
