From the biking community to get of there asses to come along to this once a year fund raising event for a very worth while cause.
I guess we are just lucky that the pilots of said helicopers dont say they can't come because it is raining or it was to early:zzzz:for them to get up :nono:
And for the record there was no rain.
And as for the person that put a bloody great post up about this and didn't even turn up well now i really do think your a :tugger:
500 in attendance this year
And last but not least thanks to the organizer this as another great event you can all go and have :apint: and give yourselfs a pat on your backs. We will be there next rain hail and early.

I was there with a few others, got me badge n' all.
Was a shame to see such lack of KB'ers but it was a generally good ride all round. Loved going through the city without any traffic, that was wicked.
And yup.. no rain, just raining in West Auckland.
I buggered off before the prizes were announced, but congratulations to Crashe!

$8K with 500 bikes?... Avg $16 per head...ok whos not giving?
Makes ya wonder if the $10k last year with 1500 bikes was bullshit.
Working on the same Avg, last year should hae been around $24K. Something dont add up, anyway, good effort to those who turned out for it.

As for everyone elsee who didnt come because of rain, Ive been checking the rain radar since yesterday, the forecasts say that drizzle was going to be ending during the day.
I turned up in jeans. I was sweet all day. So much for rain eh?

Some badges and shirts were presold, money even if riders didn't turn out.
And the people who came last year but were put off this year would have been the least committed, and therefore the least likely to donate. The ones who came this year in spite of difficulties would be the hard core, most likely to give. Makes sense.

Maha - yes you are right in the fact that some people do just come along for the ride or just give a gold coin donation rather than buy the badge or t-shirt. Others are very generous, as an example they buy a badge, give us $20 and say keep the change as a donation.
Re 2007 - The Ulysses Club actually gave $14,000.00 to the Auckland Rescue Helicopter last year. Because there are still some bills/finance stuff to sort we give an estimated "big cheque" on the day.
P.S. Rhino won one of the major prizes. A $250 voucher from Motomail. He is going to get a new jacket!!! Good on ya Rhino.

Up at 0600.
Arrived BP Autobahn 0730.
Joined the throng at bloodstock place 0800.
Bought me shirt and a badge.
Got wet, cold and had a few pucker moments in the slippery bits of Queen St.
And I will sure as hell be back again next year to do it all again, rain or shine.
As someone has pointed out, the chopper doesn't fly based on time of day, and they don't mind a little rain... so HTFU and support this next year people, because the next trip may have you in the boot.

On the occasions I attend a charity run or protest ride in Auckland it costs a minimum of $50 for the round trip and that's before I contribute anything to the kitty. For us non-locals it can be an expensive day out so any contribution has to be better than nothing.

If the start time stays the same then i guess last years ride was the last one i attend. Aint nothing going to get me out bed on a sunday at 5.30am. We donate throughout the year and i only used to go for the T- Shirt and badge (donate a little bit more) im a giving kinda guy :msn-wink: but unless they bump the start time out a couple of hours then im out. We donate $100 pa to this cause and i dont need to read the 'wimpout' comments by the jerk offs who donate nothing (but by a t shirt) Have a nice ride next year guys.....:niceone:

No worries and no offence taken...bitch :buggerd:
All I was saying is that for us to come up from Tauranga and participate it costs about $100 more than a local(Aucklander) to do so.
Yes the cause is well worth it but at this moment in time there are other things more important to us financially.

I certainly never implied that people were miserable/stingy or anything like that. You obviously don't know me at all!!! If this is what you read into my post, I am sorry. I was merely trying to reply to Maha Man and explain why the monies don't necessarily stack up.
Ulysses Auckland welcome any monies that we can get to donate to the Rescue Helicopter however small or large!!! You can just come and enjoy the ride at least you are there and showing your support.
Rhino and I have also supported other charity rides e.g. Hamilton Toy Run, Tauranga Easter Egg Run and Whangarei Ambulance Run to name a few and are aware of how much it costs to get there.
Sorry again but there was certainly no implication intended.

The police made the start time not the orginizers because it was easyer traffic mangament based on the 3 hour back log that it caused last year.

Correct.
It is unfortunate that this year, with the early start, was also dodgy weather. That makes it hard to know whether the reduced numbers were because of the early start (very hard for those out of town , who would have to rise about 5am); or just because people didn't want to risk getting wet.
They have also been putting the heavy word on BRONZ about other runs. So far we have told them to get knotted. Bikes have as much right on the road as Mrs Soccer Mom. If they (police) don't want to close the motorway ramps that's up to them. I'm just a motorcyclist, perfectly legally riding my bike. OK, so there are a few other motorcyclists also riding their bikes. That's not my problem. Even if there are quite a few. Yes, we do all happen to be going to the same destination. No law against that.
And, this year, they didn't close the ramps anyway. So what's the diff. Cages got mixed in anyway, might as well have started at 11. Personally i don't have a problem with riding such things on open roads, cages aren't hard to avoid.

Just think of all the soccer mums in 4x4's that had to wait at the closed off-ramps last year... would have made them late to their manicure appointments... no surprised they did not close the ramps.. half of them are probably married to cops. :blank:

Good on that rider!
