Same problem over here! Wire rope barriers are being installed on all major freeways, including the F3 Sydney to Newcastle route, the old Pacific Highway, as well as many dual carriage routes, like that from Morisset to Toronto on Lake Macquarie in NSW. The wire rope barrier in on a sweeping downhill corner separating opposing traffic!! Anyway, here are some links to various resources in Cheescutters, and how Aussie bikers view them:

the first two links to try and justify WRBs, and seem to be either business backed or attempt to show they are safe by compareing them to seat belts,
First why have some government world wide decided that WRBs are unsafe, why is the EU doing a study on WRBs with a veiw to babbing them through out the EU, because they act like a saw, twisted Wire ropes can be used as a saw full stop.

there is only one way to make WRB safe and thats remove them all together
