Torque is just The Fast and the Furious with the bikes instead of those poser cars. I always laugh when I hear people go on about the Fast and the Furious. They don't really know how the motor works yet they reckon they know all about cars because of the movie telling them about NOS, neons, chrome, intercoolers and body kits improving aerodynamics (all their spoliers and body kits are 10% function, 80% style and 10% piss).

Once I get my licence......

The ones from the 70s were pretty good e.g. EasyRider, Stone (Aussie flick)

I've been meaning to rent 'The Wild One' - an old Marlon Brando movie from the 60s I think..

...
hang on....
Motorbike movies, right.
Oh yeh i burnt my soul once, it melted a little on the exhaust of my GB.
No wait that was a sole.
:doctor:
Why cant stunt riders be hard boys in films - they all chuck dirt tyres on the road bike for off road scenes, i just use road tyres

"On Any Sunday" was the one - came out here in '73 and there was no bullshit in that. "On Any Sunday II" in '78 was OK, but not as funny as the first one. "Easy Rider" was '69 and the funny thing is if I watch it now I think it is a crap movie but back then it was so cool. They were all crash and burn back in the 60's and early 70's with other movies like "Vanishing Point" though that was about a car.

The Wild One,Easy Rider and On Any Sunday are the only bike movies of any consequence - because they changed what people thought about motorcycles. We didn't get The Wild One in NZ until the late 70s I think,it was banned,so it's effect on us was lost, but indirectly it was responsable for the ''bikie'' culture,or bike gangs that rose in the late 60s.Easy Rider hit the spot with young people (I was 16 when it was first shown in NZ,I was there with a fake licence)Choppers became cool and we all had to have one,I did.On Any Sunday showed us dirt bikes, trail bikes were only just on the floor,we went out and bought them and hit the dirt. Those films changed our lives - I don't think any bike films after have had that impact.

Has anyone seen Electra glide in Blue ??

Yeah. It's OK. A bit unfocussed in terms of plot etc. All the bikes in it are the great big overfaired cruiser-types that the yanks love, if memory serves.

TwoSeven
26th November 2004, 11:19
My friends younguns loved torque etc. But as they pointed out, it was for the 'bling' not the reality.

They were interested in what mods can be done to the bike and all that stuff, not in actual experience of riding them or a decent plot in the movie - so long as it had big bangs and chases etc.

Modding rice bikes as a craze hasnt hit NZ yet. Here most people just grasp the concept of a new zorst and jetting, and forget about what the bike actually looks like.

I mean have you seen one of these here

http://www.monkeybike.co.uk/acatalog/4-Z50J_black_and_silver_med.jpg

Let alone a full riced out R1 or something like this

http://www.streetfighters-usa.com/web_ima/streetfighters_pic/matzisto.jpg

ok there might be a few, but its not a craze as such.

I thought Streethawk was cool too when I was a kid. But having seen an episode recently, I gotta say, damn that show suck bullocks. So so very very cheesey. As bad if not worse than Knight Rider.

Damn I was easily impressed as a kid, not to mention watched way too much tv.

There was Girl on a Motorcycle, with a full frontal nude Marianne Faithful in here sexy prime.

What I always thought would be a great movie is Steve McQueens La Mans but set at the IOMTT. IE a movie where the IOMTT racing is the main star, and a story is built around it. Like Le Mans, actual racers could be used in most roles instead of actors.

And at the NZ Grand Prix in '94 (or was it '95?) two of the three Brittens racing did wheelies down the length of the straight when they finished first, second and fourth. Very kewl.

ONE WEEK (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104806/)

Out of the blue, Ben learns he has stage IV cancer; survival, with treatment, is 10 percent. So this risk-averse, slow-to-act, quiet man buys a used motorcycle, says goodbye to Samantha, his baffled fiancée, and heads west from Toronto. IMDB Ratings: 7.1/10 from 4,202 users. :niceone:

THE LEATHER BOYS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057244/)

Young Dot (Rita Tushingham) and her boyfriend Reggie (Colin Campbell) are members of a group of bikers who hang out at the Ace Café (a real North Circular location). They have a good time socialising and zooming up and down the road - real old fashioned "ton-up" kids. Dot wants to get married and Reggie thoughtlessly agrees, and the couple soon find themselves married.

The honeymoon, at Butlin's (Bognor Regis), doesn't go well. The weather is atrocious, and while Dot wants to go drinking and dancing, Reggie would rather stay in and have sex. The couple are already drifting apart by the end of the honeymoon, and once home Dot proves an incompetent housewife who spends her time buying magazines and chocolate and having her hair done, while Reggie works and comes home to a dirty flat and beans for tea.

Reggie finds solace with his biker mates and starts to form a close relationship with Pete (Dudley Sutton) who is a very happy-go-lucky character who works at the local tip and is of no fixed abode.
