Anyone tried the Continental tyres for touring yet? If so what mileage are you getting out of them?

Reason I ask, we had a tyre techo at one of our monthly club meetings, he said we could expect 15.000+ ks out of their product.

Does anyone agree with him as I am about due for a set of Tyres after getting 8.000ks on a Michelin Pilot Road Rear, and maybe 9.000ks on the front. Also a Pilot road. I look forward to any comments.
cheers!!!!

Been on my Contis' for 4k now and are wearing really well and I'm impressed with their performance so far.

I had Dunlop on before and got 11k out of those and when I got the Contis' put on I was told that I should get around 15k out of them. Of course getting mileage out of your tyres also depends on how you ride and pressures etc.

Try out the Contis' huckfarley. Conti also promotes that if you dont like the tyre in seven days they will replace it with a tyre of your choice.

I might just heed your advice and put Conti's on. I like.. The no like, no buy Business you talk about.

I ride pretty hard so If I got 10k out of them I would be stoked.. Tell me how have you found them in the wet? That is of course you have been caught out in the wet... We haven't had much rain down here to speak of in Central districts....Thanks for your reply!! Huckleberry

A fairly hard riding CBR1000RRR owner of my aquaintance is using Conti Sports. He doesn't get many ks but then he doesn't expect many. Thing is, last I heard he's still buying them so he must be happy...

I have conti road attacks on my 955i Tiger and they work well, and are lasting well had them put on in the UK probably 10-12 monthes and 6k or moer ago still going strong, not squaring off provide plenty of grip. Would buy them again. Also i used Metzeler Z6's on my 600 Yamaha in the UK and they were good tyres lasted and handled well.

I cannot comment on the sports touring range, but the Conti sports are awsome tyres, as good if not better than any other brand I have ever used

To be honest we have had very little rain in Auckland too. I do ride rain or shine and what little rain we have had, it would be hard to give an honest reply to the performance of the Contis' as the roads are really slippery with oil and rubber etc on the roads. Winter coming to your town soon though :cold:

But Contis' promotion gave me the motivation to try them and if I didnt like them.....no worries.

Use them all the time - Conti Tours, and get about 15,000+ even two-up and with a bit of gear.

No problems with them in the wet - but then I ride EXTRA cautiously in the wet.

Front tyre on the T-Sport is on it's last legs - but it's the original Dunlop with the Harley-Davidson lettering - AND it's done 22,000km.

Probably hard as hell and I'd not trust it too much in the wet.

I've got Pilot rd on the front and Macadam on the rear, 16,000km so far and judging by the tread left still good for another 10-12000km.

Well thanks all for your thoughts on the Cont'is I have bought the Idea that they are for me and my 07 Triumph Tiger. I have been offered a set for $550
fitted. Is this about the right sort of dosh to pay for a set? Just checking as tyres do vary a lot from shop to shop. But whatever the cost I am sold on a set so thanks again for all the feedback.

 Wow that's a lot of serious ks on your tyres. I see you are riding a Guzzi. It must be very light and nimble to be getting that mileage out of the tyres you are running.
Also can you elaborate on the tyre called a Macadam, because I have never hear of them.
To be getting the mileage out of them that you claim, they must be a hell of a hard tyre. If it is I would imagine they would be very slippery and dangerous on wet roads. come back!!

I have just gotten 12,000km out out of a set of Conti Road Attacks on the SV, this included a 10 day tour around the south island and daily comuting to work. The rear was pretty much routed, but the frount probally could have kept going for another couple of thousand.

I would highly recomend these tyres as an option to anyone. I have this time round fitted a Road Attack on the rear and a Sport Attack on the front just to see what the difference is.

$550 would be on the higher side, off the shelf mine where $520 I think, but I got a better deal thatn that on mine:cool:

Also The SV came standard with piolet roads, When I booked it in for its 6000km service the rear was pretty much routed then and the frount I managed to nurse through to the 12000km service (but It was well and truly routed and probally dangours by that stage).

Macadam also Michelin, I'm no authority on tyres only what I have learned reading these threads. The bike weighs about 245kg dry from memory. It's fairly nimble for a cruiser and the E/W V twin adds to that. We havent had a lot of wet weather to test them with, but I don't feel uncomfortable about them in the wet. Having said that I don't push the boundaries in the wet anyway. 8o% of my riding would be commuting on the Auckland m/way and braking reqd is minimal with the V twin, accelaration wise I only really wind it out if I'm passing and already travelling 80-100km, which likely would not have a detrimental impact on the tyre. I check the pressures approx twice a week and they have usually dropped a couple of pound each between checks. Will let you know how much I finally get from them.

Replaced the dungwops that come standard on the Hd with the Contis..real difference..better on the road, much better grip in wet...so far have done 4000 kms on them around the North Island..fantastic tyres..wont go back to anything else now....

Got mine from TSS in lower Hutt for a lot less than $500 as well...try them..might be worth the trip down.

I ran a Road Attack rear and a Sport Attack on my previous bike a Suzi GS1200ss - bloody great. The front Sport was seriously sticky however I'd expect that it would require replacing at the same time as the rear due to the sticky compound. By all accounts the Road front is a winner as well.
I'd done just over 4000 kms on them when I trade it in, with maybe a quarter - third wear max.

One thing I noticed and have heard is the profile promotes a bit quicker turn-in than some other brands.

Cheers Hailwood for that I have bought tyres of TSS in the past and always had a good deal from them.

I like to buy locally to keep the town alive. But when you talk to some arrogant arsehole, that will not drop a dollar from the retail price.

"Hello" I am going to take my buisso elsewhere. So down to the Hutt I will be going.

Hi there, I own a 2006 ZX6r, still on original BT014s. Has done 9500k now and the rear needs replacing - which is prob pretty good for a BT014!?

I do a lot of commuting down the motorway 5 days a week, and also like the weekend ride and the odd track day...So... I need something which can go hard on the corners and also provide good mileage! ...don't we all!!!

Because of the commute, the center on the BT014 has worn down faster than the rest (squared off) ...so I need something that will resist wear down the middle.

I have been looking at a set of RoadAttacks, as I hear the can go the distance and wont square-off so easily.... But how good are they during those weekend cornering sessions and track days?.... anyone got an opinion, advice??

cheers

I got RoadAttacks on my Fireblade. I use it for commuting most of the time and the occasional weekend rides. Seems to handle pretty well round bends and they seem to last forever too. My front is close for replacement and I will swap it with a SportAttack this time. Great tyres.

Had a set of what is now the TKC pattern on the Beemer & got about 15k on them. Great tyres, fairly grippy and hard wearing. Stable even on metal.

I was quoted $500 for Road Attacks for the ZZR fitted but went with the Diablos. Just personal choice.

Well I got caught out recently on a SI trip and ended up fitting a set of Road Attacks half way through the trip in Invercargill. So I put on 3000km during the rest of the tour in all conditions and also a trackday at Ruapuna.

For the road it was as good as any sport tyre I've used esp. in the wet.

On the track I was reasonably cautious as I usually have type 4 (softest) BT002 on my track/racebike. I set low pressures at 30psi and towards the end of the 3rd/4th sessions I was pushing it reasonably hard (for a road bike). Only once did I get the rear sliding (it felt more like it was skipping) when getting back on the throttle a little too early but never lost control. In the pits the rubber felt sticky just like my track tyres.

The only thing I would say is as a touring tyre I got to the edge very quickly in the early sessions. It was something in the back of mind during the day but then again I was scrapping my knee in the usual places at Ruapuna.

Hope this helps

Cheers NinjaBoy, this info really helps. Sounds like the RoadAttacks will be more than adequate for my riding level, as I'm hardly a knee scraper ....yet! ....Infact I'm still a bit of a blouse through corners - but confidence is increasing fast and I dont want to find out the hard way, one day, that my capability has ovetaken my tyres capability!! But that time will probably be a few more tyre changes away by the sound of things...!

thanks alot!

Well it looks like Conti road attacks for my level of riding also. From what you have had to say on the thread they seem to be quite adequate. So now it's of to my tyre bloke to try to cut a deal he quoted me $530. So I am going to hit him up to fit them for the $530. Fitting down our way costs around $60.

I would like to thank you all for the brilliant feedback. That's what I like about KB. Most members are real helpful. But unfortunately we still have some right pricks on board also. But hey you get that on most forums anyway.

Yes Whitelocks (Shane) but don't tell him I said so. You will have to do your own haggling with him.

Mind you I get through around 5 rear and 3 fronts a year. And they know that. Plus I buy my Q8 oil and filters from them. And spend shit loads on other things like boots, a Jacket, full set of Oxford panniers last year. So I have just a wee bit of bargaining power but not to much mind.

I've had conti attack (softs) on the scoot for 3 days now. Bloody excellent, very good leaning tire, very neutral feel, good grip (when you can keep the heat in them). A+ for effort.

So, I'll run Metzler M3's in the winter, Attacks on the track and during the summer. Sorted.:calm:
