Hubby and I are now back up on 2 (or 1) wheels again - YAY
Now obviously we want to put on a few kays on the weekend.
Anyone know where we can do a decent breakfast ride (in/around/outside wellington)? something to stretch the legs a bit, get the eyes back in etc. And of course with a mandatory good brekkie along the way.

Over the Hill to the Fush (now known as Toppy's) in Martinborough.

Or, if you're less adventurous, around the south coast, with a feed at The Bach at Owhiro Bay (the Chocolate Fush is so LOTR).

Lake Ferry, Gladstone and Wild Oats in Carterton would all be considered 'Biker Friendly' stops within short range as well.

How long a ride are you looking at? As Mr Hitcher has already suggested the foray over the Rimutakas is a firm favourite for Wheelington riders, but take care if you haven't been that way yet. Can be a bit blustery, and the traffic can be interesting.

The most oarsomest bacon and eggs and stuff can be found in <a href="http://www.whitepages.co.nz/Pages/Search/Details/0,2624,a1281_d16872269,00.html?Name=cafe&Loc=dannevirke&Reg=" target=blank>Dannevirke</a> via Rimutaka's, Route 52...

There's also a talk of a ride on the 15th, nothing confirmed yet but one that you can do a little or a lot with

Now if you're serious about going for a ride from Wellington, then the best breakfast within range is at the Herb Farm at Ashhurst. Without question or doubt. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

A cruise over Haywards or around the Pauatahanui inlet, Piekakariki Hill and up to Kapiti where there are several cafes along the waterfront. Depends on how long you want to ride before you eat. All the other suggestions are good too.

Welcome aboard the site btw

Yep but also by reading the entirety of his post you'd be aware that the recommendation comes from personal experience, gained at great expense and gastronomical titllation.

It is with great sadness that the call for a decent Wellington ride does not result in the visual image of any slutty kiwibiker chick.

The ride I liked most was the ride to Taihape for Lunch ... went up the back arse of nowhere ... through to some really weird places and ended up next to a road that gave two choices ... one of which was 16 km to Taihape ... love the post office cafe there :)

She means Feilding, Cheltenham, Pemberton, Karewera, Upper Kawhatau, Kawhatau Valley and out onto SH1 just before Utiku.

It was a great great ride ... but we did do it from an overnight in Feilding ... and so the day wasn't too long (ish)

Not bad. Reasonable price and wait's not as long as Lake Ferry.

Must try that. I usually stop at Cafe Blue which is a very good stop.

Come on matey.....It's just a day ride!! and I think you mean 'The Exchange'. Can be expensive, especially on a Public Holiday. I hear Brown Sugar is nice and on the alternative routes up that way, there's always Hansons in Kimbolton or the cafe at Flat Hills

Dang that sounds interesting. Might have to put my name down for that, oh wait, doh!!!, thats right already have.....(Slightly off subject there)...Would be good to have company for how ever long you wanted to ride for...:)

Right back on subject..... Come along onto one of the TCWNR (The Cruisy wednesday Night Rides). NIce ride followed by a stop for eats, then another nice ride home... Choice of destination is usually made on the night, and this ranges anywhere from Kapiti, Masterston, Martinborough etc. All with lovely food and great company...:)

Check out the thread first page for details..

Ah yes, I was just trying to protect the innocent from a KoroJ "Day Ride" that they weren't expecting. But you are right, I just looked up one of my saved Google Maps, it's 235.7km from Taihape to Porirua.

I forgot that we did a whole bunch of side trips around Halcombe and anywhere else that had a sealed road before we ventured north at about 11:30. No wonder it seemed like a long day.

okay, thanks everyone. i will take it under advisement with the hubby.
And sorry, I meant to say hello here. I already did on the 'girl' side
The Wed evening ride will have to have a rain check for now. I have prior arrangements for the moment on Wednesdays.
Will shout once we decide where we are going, and see if we can find some company.
A 400 kay round trip sounds good to me.

Taihape ... love the post office cafe there

Those chocolate brownies they do -- heated so that the chocolate tolls inside go all runny -- and served with proper whipped cream, are to fucking die for. One day when I'm over being *virtuous*, I may have to succumb...
