Hi
Just wondering why my SJ50's air filter (according to the manual) needs to be coated in oil after cleaning?

Because the oil helps the dust and dirt stick to the filter and it does a better job of filtering that way :)

There is special spray-on filter oil available from places like Repco. It's the perfect viscosity for the job and easy to apply with an aerosol can.

I just opened up my air-box yesterday and found there's no bloody air filter at all! Some previous owner took it out to increase airflow maybe!

When I opened mine up I found that the previous owner had used some kind of solvent to clean the filter - and the filter had completely disintegrated and was in little bits all over the inside of the air box! NOT a good thing.
