View Full Version : Thread owners should be moderators for their thread
Morcs

I think everyone should be able to moderate any thread they started.
As they started the thread they (not anyone else) is the only person who can decide whether their thread has gone off topic, and who they dont want participating etc...
I think its a bloody marvellous idea.

Well I guess you could always go and start your own website and then you could do what you want.....

Bah its not what I mean.
Im suggesting it as a positive thing, I think with the nutcases we have here on KB, it would work quite well.

As much as I think your idea has some merit, cutting down on the amount of utter shit the mods have to read everyday, I think it would be left open to a lot of abuse and people on their own little power-trips and booting people out of "their" thread.

Yeah mate I know..... However if this was to happen then KB would be full of converstions between mates that would be best done in PM's. Much like it is now. The moderators would have meeellions of complaints about "mini-moderators". Someones bound to have a heart attack!

Thread starters don't actually own their threads....in fact we don't even own our own posts.

Don't know of a mod that will do that so the topic is irrelevant. Sorry.
Thread starters don't actually own their threads....in fact we don't even own our own posts.
However, McJim is technically correct.

Na mate - too many small minds in here that can't handle objections, or the uncomfortable truth.
3rd party moderating is heaps better (no - I'm serious)

Or the thread starter is no longer here.
Just look at SARGE's thread on "What makes a man".
The utter fucking dribble that has taken over that thread...:nono:

Bahaha, start a conversation at the pub. The person who starts the conversation tells people what they can and can't say.....
Sod that I'll go and get pissed at the bar and chat up the serving wench.

You'll start a new thread, in other words, which is why I think this is a bad idea.

Sounds like fun?
Then all you do if someone is unfairly abused, they send a support ticket to the mods to investigate.
So there ends up being less work for the mods, more of the Old Skool KB.

1. Familiarise yourself with the site's rules.
2. Think carefully before posting anything at all in a public forum e.g. *I wonder what's the worst thing that could happen...*
3. Try to avoid taking offense at what people may post in reply.
4. HTFU.
5. Get over it.
6. Hmmm. Beer...

People will soon delete everything that goes against their opinion. People already complain of mods possibly doing that (I'll be optimistic and say it's unintentional, for now).
E.g. Snapt forums
Grub

What a cool idea!
Could start threads, boot out wankers that don't agree with you (like Uncle Helen does) and take over the world (like Aunty Michael wants to)

On topic: I was on an A-me-ric-can site that allowed thread starters to delete the thread - that's all.

I have never changed my avatar. There was a period when Ms Fish and I exchanged identities , due to a misunderstanding and an ill timed release of quantum, but we each retained our own avatar. Just exchanged egos. We had to change back, hers was too big for me.

Indeed imitation is allegedly the most sincere form of flattery. Whilst web surfing the other evening, I happened to note that sportsbike.co.nz features a *Hitcher*, complete with Peter Fonda animated avatar, FJR1300T and an alleged penchant for single malts. So far their spelling and grammar is up to the mark, so it's nice to know they're taking good care of the *brand*. Saves me a job, I guess...

I know that I'm just way too simple-minded, too ... pedestrian to keep up with the subtle wit of old KBers like Hitcher, but I take it what you're doing here is trying to support Morcs by demonstrating how badly off-topic a thread can become when the original poster can't censor the subsequent posts??
