View Full Version : Helping out our fallen brother SKELSTAR.

Ok guy and girls, with Sean on the mend at an unexpectedly good rate, I figure it's best to get this goin sooner rather than later.

We had the main mans bike picked up from the "raps" last night, and got it to our garage tonight (thanks heaps to all who chipped in for the towing fee.) I'm happy to report it's in not too bad shape, with the body work looking repairable rather than in need of replacement. I have sourced a new dash already, and will put together a complete list of what we need when we return from the racing at Manfield this weekend.

So I guess for now, I think it would be nice for people to consider what or how they can contribute to the rebuild of one of the nicest guys Flame and I ever mets, "Matte Mille".

Sean is truely a brother to us, and helped us in more than one time of need, I'm not much for sentiment, but want to do something for him to see what he means in our lives.:first:

Can a mod make this sticky for me please, and put it in the appropriate thread folder if I haven't.

Thanks heaps all.

Drew & Flame.

Edit, adding account number to this first post for ease of a few people that have pmed me. Thanks heaps.

Drew or Flame,

More than happy to help. I've sent you guys a PM....

I would just like to say, that it is a beautiful thing to see, especially in todays times, with all the perceived violence, hatred, and all the negative things in this world. That there exists truly unselfish, and good old fashioned friendship which goes beyond all the mundane trivial petty day to day stuff.
And where people will do whatever it takes to help others...Makes me feel kind of honoured to be a part of it..:)

Well this is akward, but I suppose the easiest way for people make any small contribution they can from afar. If people would like to donate some cash to the cause, pm me and I'll give you bank details. If we manage to raise more than the cost of fixing the bike, I'll throw a massive party, just kidding, all proceeds will go to Sean to help him out.

Cheers all.

Im not sure why you are pushing this mate..... Sean's personal business is not for discussing on the internet. You either can/can't or will/won't help its really quite simple.

But Sean's personal business is being discussed on the Internet. And I haven't asked the same question twice just to be an arse, although I know that's how it may seem to some.

I'm just clarifying (for my own purposes at least) what exactly we're being asked to contribute towards. I don't mind helping other KB members. I've done so before, and will do so again.

But if Sean's bike is insured, then surely its repair and restoration should be best pursued by that channel? If there are other things Sean needs help with as a consequence of his accident, then fine, people can help out as they choose. If people are making a contribution and it's not going to be used to fix Sean's bike, even if the request for assistance is well intentioned, isn't that just a bit dishonest?

With ya on that Hitcher, I also have given on a couple of occassions, the first post does not clarify what the money will be spent on, nor does it accually ask for money, just 'help'. Im only guessing that means 'money'. Kiwifruit saw through the mist and asked for the bank acc details, so i guess the Chocolate i sent aint quite whats requiered?

So I guess for now, I think it would be nice for people to consider what or how they can contribute to the rebuild of one of the nicest guys Flame and I ever mets, "Matte Mille".

See, I read that as 'could people please help us out by thinking of ways that we can help get Sean's bike going and looking nice again'. To me that could mean helping out with sanding, painting etc or maybe even just bringing food to those helping to work on Sean's bike. I did not read that as "give me money so I can fix the bike". Some people may want to help with $$ some people may have tools or experience in rebuilding things etc etc....
When things start getting personal then this is best done by PM.

EDIT: the "Matte Mille" is what Sean calls his bike.

Hun, Hitcher wasn't trying to put a damper on things, just trying to bring up a very important point:

It is unlikely that someone like Skel would not have had insurance on his bike, and as much as I admire Drew and Flame for the initiative (applaud it even) , maybe Lissa for example may be consulted on how best to handle the repairs on Sean's bike. If it is meant as a surprise, I'm sure Lissa can keep a secret for him when he gets much better.

Hell, I don't earn bugger all, but I'll chip in whatever I can for Sean if his bike is not insured. And also, Drew may want to clarify what kind of help he is asking for.

Let's just make sure we have all the details before we act, is all I'm saying.

Hmm.... I can appreciate what some people are saying... however once again this reminds me on how different people approach things in different ways.

I will contribute to my friend, if the money goes to the bike, his partner, his bills, in fact his bloody beer after he gets out of hospital... I don’t really care, just as long as it helps him out. I will do whatever I can to help. Being in Chch makes it hard to contribute physical help... so count me in Drew, I await your pm with bank details.

But if Sean's bike is insured, then surely its repair and restoration should be best pursued by that channel?

Agreed... and to further qualify my reaction.,..

I'm guessing Sean's going to need a bunch of stuff in the next little while anyway, and if ACC stumps up only 80% of his income there's a cash shortfall there etc etc etc.

A BIG lesson learned with a previous fundraiser I was involved with... raise the cash in the name of someone else and hold onto it until all the various departments etc have had a chance to poke and prod and do what they like.... sometimes a source of income (such as a fund raiser) is seen as a good reason for them NOT to pay out... indeed it's in their mandates.

Sooo.... raise the money - and let's say... Lissa manages to get hold of some of it... and she happens to be talking to Sean about some stuff he really wants... and things unfold just nicely.

ManDownUnder
29th February 2008, 14:35
Skel's a good bastard. Never met him that I know of but... I figure he should benefit from somethign he's given me a lot of...

.... bling....

I want to auction it off... the lot of it Mods - can I do that? Can I sell 1000 points at a time, or the whole lot in one go?

If it's a no (Mods would be the poor pricks with the headache of transferring it) I'll delete this post.

For those enquiring, any contributions of parts/labour/or $ will be going towards bike repairs/parts etc, NOT to the people doing the labour. Drew (and others including myself, though Im useless mechanically) will spend as many hours as neccessary to get Mille right, and we will honour every minute of it as a chance to thank Sean for just being the great guy that he is.

Like Drew said, once we have time next week to have a closer look at the bike, we will be able to put up a list of parts we need to get Sean's bike looking primo again, as Sean put hours of work into making Matte Mille look like a dam sexy beast! we just want to do our best to get it ridable and looking sharp again for him.

Lissa is fully aware that we have the bike, and that we are going to do our damdest to make it 'mint'.

Im sorry that people always have bring the word 'dishonesty' into such threads as this!!!:Oi:

Some of you know Sean and I to be very close, those that dont, I love the guy like a brother, as does Flame.

We are trying to get his bike fixed for him, that's it, if somebody else wants to raise money to pay his bills, I'll chip in to that too.

This is what we would like to do for Sean as a gift, to do with as he chooses once he's all fixed up.

I WILL NOT proffit from this, or think I am entitled to any money for my services.

Horrible thought through my mind--You in good faith to help a mate out sand and weld n paint and replace what you can.
Skel then decides to make an insurance claim--
Insurance company go --Hang on WTF is going on--its like half ok and doesnt line up with the accicdent you say you had --- this stinks of fraud etc.
Best intentions I have NO doubt but maybee check first

Bingo. Frosty has it in one.

Please please please, check out the insurance issue before touching anything on the bike.

Got your bling...we are airing valid points and agree you probably know all the facts in the absence of which there will be some of us who will raise things.

If bike is insured that is covered
ACC - well 80% is better than nought. The missing 20% may well be what he saves in some expenses that he may incur if he was up and running.

If you want people to help then you have to think about explaining the facts...not saying you are doing anything dodgy...but we should be satisfied with the rational of your judgement...

Sean is a top bloke with a group of really tight mate's. He's had a stroke of rotten luck that he nearly paid the ultimate price for..... This thread has been started to help a good Kiwi Biker with a heart of gold and a sharp witty mind. To the folk's asking the questions about the integrity of this thread stop and ask yourselves would Drew & Flame be organising the repairs if the insurance genie was about to apear from a magic lamp???

As Drew has said he will post a list of parts required for repair next week after racing at manfeild this weekend. After a visit to ICU on Thursday I can assure you Sean won't be requiring a 1000cc V twin for quite a few months......

I love the idea of sponsoring a part and will be putting my hand into my pocket in the hope of one day seeing Sean ridding his "Matte Milly" again, and all the joy it bring's him.

Please realise that until the facts of what happened come to light, there maybe another priority that we need to help out with, before the bike.

IMHO Flame and Drew (and everyone else helping out) are gems

We don't have much in the Monsters Inc coffers but we will be contributing to Skels fund. I see this as a rare opportunity help a good person whose in a bad place with a simple (for me) yet meaningful gesture.

AND it has been left open for people to give/offer whatever they are able to. Well done guys - this community does make me proud to be part of sometimes

It really would be nice if we could all have a 'rainy day rescue' for everything but sometimes we have to make calculated gambles and sometimes rainy day rescues still fall short anyway.

Best of health and healing to Sean - the support on here is testament to him and the person that he is.

As I said Drew, anything I can do just let me know, maybe I'll mix the drinks for the hard workers or something being not particularly mechanically minded or good with a spray can, but happy to help where I can, just let me know.

Yep im happy to help with whatever I can. Im a bit useless though and could maybe just come round and drink ya alcohol....

Seriously though you fullas are cher au!

I think we get the chicks drunk and let them loose with some spray cans. Do you think Skel you like a 60's peace Mille?

If the car needs repairing i will put my hand up to repair and paint the car.I work at a local panel shop so i can repair and paint it free of charge

The other cars late model and I'm sure their insurance will fix it before Skelstar's in any shape to deal with it.

So Sean's bike was uninsured then?

I'm with Hels on this one - why push this issue? We know now that Sean wasn't insured, but your comments were made before that came to light and I think it was a bit unnecessary. It might have been that the bike was but he himself wasn't (ie. his income - ACC are not always forthcoming with income replacement and only offer 80% in any case). Surely the sentiment of the original post was to help out someone in need in any way possible?

I'm not in a position to be able to help financially at the moment, but I do have time on my hands, so if there's anything I can do.......

Someone asked for a Pic of "Matte Mille"

I believe this is the beastie in question....If it's not someone tell me

Drew
2nd March 2008, 19:53
Great shot that!!!

Ok boys and girls, the kitty is building up, thank you all and keep up the good work.

I've still not finished pulling "Matte Mille" apart, but the list remains fairly short for now. I am trying to fix the headlight as I expect the cost of replacement is astronomical, I managed to get the glass, (plastic but this way you know what I'm talkin about) off in one piece, to fix one of the shiny diffuser bits that was broken. The housing itself needs all the mounts re-attached aswell, so I figure if anyone has been unlucky enough to break the glass on thiers and replaced the whole unit, then the old one would be well handy to our cause.

Dash was buggered but I have another one coming for a wicked price from Kerry Jeffs at KTL bikes.

Indicators have been stolen out of Vickis box of Duke spares.

Top fairing is currently being bid on from E-bay by another sponsor of ours Rob Taylor, Cherryrob around this place, thanks mate. So if anyone else is trying to knab it for the cause, STOP!

Crazeyfox has the painting covered. Just spoke to the man and I'm dropping them round to him after work tomorrow. Massive cost avoided, thanks so much, no-one could ask for more! Send business this guys way folks, he's even gonna have a crack at fixing the headlight housing while he's peicing the fairings back together:2thumbsup

Still to sort out is the front subframe, fairing blade, rear cowel (seat cover thingy) if someone has the time, this bit may well still be lying roadside at the scene, tail light surround, gear and rear brake lever, clutch and brake levers, bar ends, mirrors, and left side switch block, (on off headlight switch has broken off, maybe can just replace that bit).

I'm thinking we could get bar end mirrors for it, but cant remember if Sean liked them or not. I know him and I talked about them on a couple of ocasions, but cant have paid enough attention to his position on the subject. Flame points out he was gonna get the cracked mirror it always had fixed, so I guess he wanted to stick with stock ones, that was a waste of a paragraph:bash:

That's it for now, keep up the good work everyone, we can never thank you all enough. Sean is a very lucky man indeed to have such a huge supportive group at this time.

Thank tou all again.

Drew, Vicky, good on you for helping Skelstar out. Karma works both ways ...

And to those that insinuated that the purpose of this thread was to somehow enrich Drew and Vicky's bank balance under the pretence of helping out a mate, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I've only had the pleasure of knowing these guys for a few months, but I can't for the life of me imagine that either one of this couple would be anything other than scrupulously honest. Upon reading the first post, the mere thought that Drew or Vicky would use a mate's accident for personal gain did not even begin to cross my mind.

I have no doubt that the intentions of this thread are very honourable. I wish you luck for the campaign - and Sean all the best for the recovery.

Hitcher has already asked about he insurance question. There are a couple more outstanding in my mind before I could contribute:

Was the motorcycle fully road legal (REG WOF etc)?
Was the rider complying with his licence conditions when riding said motorcycle?
If the answer to both these is yes, why no insurance?

Now the answer may well be "none of your business"! If it is, that is fine I will chose not to contribute.

If you go public on a website asking for donations, then I believe that you should be in a position to explain the circumstances.

However, this is just my view. Big ups to those that do not need/want to know these answers and have given to the cause anyway. Many of you probably know both Sean and the answer to those questions. I do not, hence I have asked them.

A wee update on Matte Mille....

Well the fairings and all the broken bits of plastic from everywhere (headlight etc) are now in the very generous and skillfull hands of Crazyfox. He is a legend! We are in hope that the headlight housing can be fixed, and that the glassy bits Drew salvaged and has repaired will work, and save the big $$$ of a new headlight. Also he thinks the top fairing should be fixable, but we are still on the lookout for one just in case. Crazyfox has also very kindly offered to fix the scratched up tank for a few beers, well I think we will make him take a little more than that for his huge effort!

The front subframe and some of the levers have been kindly collected by Ocean1 becoz he has the master machining skills and is attempting to make them all straight and pretty again :) also a legend:hug:

Mr Boomer has located some CRG mirrors and bar ends for a very wicked price! fanx hun!:2thumbsup

I think I have managed to locate a screen, so am waiting to hear back on that one. And the Ducati indicators out of my spares box should fit with a bit of Drew intervention.

The dash is on its way from Auckland shortley for the bargain price of $250!!!! Kerry Jeffs at KTL your tops!!!

Cant think of anything else off the top of my head. But to all you generous peeps.....THANK YOU SO MUCH

So as it stands, without having to purchase new headlight or top fairing the funds contributed by Seans family, all you kind hearts, and Drew and I, we will have enough to get 'Matte Mille' back on form. We havn't looked into gear or helmet etc yet, that will be entirely up to Sean to decide should he want it replaced. So once we know for sure about the headlight and top fairing we will know where we are at and go from there.

Once again......many many thanks

Drew and Vicki.

I made a slight error in the last total I posted, in that I added the prize money cheque I had deposited from my winnings at Pearoa, I'm not that bright.

What we have now will cover the bike repairs, so we can now help Sean in other ways. We'll have to talk to him and his family as to where the money gets directed, but I know there will be many ways it can be put to worthy use.

Please keep up the good work, I dont want for Sean and co to worry about anything in what is going to be a very stressfull time.

Update...There is progress! The new dash has arrived, thanks KTL bikes, (shameless plug I know), the new mirrors are ordered, the body work is still...being worked, and I dropped the tank off tonight (along with a side fairing off the WMD that flew off on the motorway, not bing funded by the Sean fund).

Ocean1 is making ground with the subframe and levers, although he suggests we only use the original if we cant find another, as the alluminium hasn't responded well to being re-manipulated, so the hunt is on!

Still hoping to find a rear seat cowel from somewhere too, but it aint essential as the seat itself is somewhere in Sean and Darkmans garage. When I go look, call the authorities if I dont return in 24 hours.:bleh:

Wahoooooo! she's going back together right now. Last of the repaired panel work arrived tonight (Big thankyou Crazefox). Sorry cant post pics yet coz Sean will be spying on us.....and we want you to see it first Sean. So pics will be posted once all complete and Sean and Mille are re-united.

Only one part still to get, a screen, which we totally forgot about. Im wading through websites for that at the mo. Then the new tyres can go on, new oil etc, and we'll take her down for a brand new WOF. Of course the trainer wheels are going on too :msn-wink:

Huge enormous 'thank you' to all of you that helped make this happen :) She's gonna look MINT.

good to have it all done at last

Didn't do wheelies before [I]that day, won't be doing them on Sat. It's just going to be a careful ride down the street and back again.

Posuer shots! ... on another thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1672780&postcount=572)... sorry!

Oh yeah, the u-turn was a bit sketchy as it was wet, and the bike felt heavy. I'm going to be real slow when I get back to riding full time... but thats ok.

Would have loved to come have a drink with yas. But im afraid I wont make it.

I know you are all going to be EXTREMELY upset about this, but im sure you will all get over it pretty fast too. Or forget it after a beer or 10 :innocent:

Enjoy, and have a drink on me.

Good luck with your ride Sean. :Punk:
