As the title suggests, where can I buy a pit board from. I wanna good one, not some broken piece of white board and a marker pen.

Cheers.

Hmm yes I've been thinking the same. Can't help but think it cost me not knowing how much behind the guys were to me last weekend. I don't like looking behind me so need some signals from the pits.

Been thinking of buying a small whiteboard and a black marker pen. Pretty sure it is visible from the track at 200kph but not totally sure?

I can get you MX style ones, they are basically just flash whiteboards with handles

If you end up looking overseas Jimmy, give me a yell, as I would most likely be keen on a good one as well

$200 looks a little steep but that seems one of the few options. Personally, I'd get the numbers from the UK for 20 quid and make the frame.

Yeah we're both on the sprocket Grub. Just rang Cardwells (http://www.cardwells.co.nz/Our_Brands/Sparco_Safety_Equipment/MenuId/45.aspx) who bring in the Sparco pit boards. Cost is $178 + GST for the board and then $118 + GST for the numbers. Yikes. They have numbers in stock but are sold out of the boards and not sure when they will have next shipment.

Just out of curiosity. Is the time/gap shown on the pit board a lap old i.e. you record the times as the rider comes by then display them the next they come around? Or is there a better method?

Depends which track you're on and how sorted your pit crew are. It is a bit worthless if they are a lap old. At puke it would be a bit difficult. At manfeild you'd probably be able to count the gap and then put it up before the start finish line. At teretonga my crew were counting the gap into the last corner and changing before I came past.

You might have enough time from the hill to the start finish line to do it at puke. Otherwise get someone to be on top of the pit garages with a walkie talkie and relay the gap at the hairpin to the pit board guy.

you could make your own, you can make a pro looking one for very cheap, as we have done (which incidently gets used by about 4 different classes in any one race weekend!), made with alloy surrounds and holders, folding fluro orange numbers etc.

Thanks for the use of it!! I'll be making my own for the future thats for sure! (there might be the odd question re how to make it though...)

Ask Ken Jones!

You have somone at another point in the track, preferably a slow point for accuracy.. ie the hairpin at Pukekohe. They radio to the pitboard person who adjusts the board as necassary.. then it is current lap, not a lap old. That also helps with what position the rider is placed, and the time back to following rider.

ie

Lap 5
P2
+ 2.3

Then we wont have the same problem of rider pushing himself to the point of crashing when the next rider is 2.3 seconds behind

Also depends on your stratigy...alot of other racers ready other peoples pit boards...and as I've lernt recently..you can have alot of fun with that :)
Oh the fun you can have with it!!
