Use the bike for commuting mostly so cant see the point of going bigger really, unless I use the "bigger" for rides and keep this one for commuting only, but then I have to convince the wife I need two bikes

wow, thats awesome. I would be keen to hear what maintenance issues you have faced with the bike over this time. Did you buy it new ?
There has been some skepticism about these Korean bikes, so it will be cool to hear from someone like yourself who has done it. We have two of them btw.

Legend. :niceone:
and agree although another bike would be nice (rode my mates 1200 bandit last weekend ) 250s most of the time (except fully loaded or pillion) are more than adequate for us high milage commuting and sightseeing types. (40000 km in 18 months).

How do these bikes run - I know with petrol and on 2 wheels.
Now looking for a 250 bike for my partner to learn on she is only 2 pisspots high so this bike looks like it would be alright for her.
How reliable, comfortable, forgiving are they. :Oi:
Whoops she read this as I was typing and I am now in the shit for my loving description:jerry:

Havent had any issues with it since it came out of warranty (under warranty the cdi unit and rear shock were replaced). It is serviced every 4000km by TSS in Lower Hutt

As I have said previously I have had no trouble apart from the two things under warranty. I have clocked up a reasonable mileage in a fairly quick time so this could be something dont know???
It has always been serviced at the correct intervals ie 1000 then 4000 then every 4000km, I have always looked after machinery like this and I dont seem to have the problems I hear others having so I dont know.......
Just noticed you asked about comfort - I have done several 5-6 hour rides and a return trip to Akld (1 day up and 1 day back) and found that if you get off every 150-200k its not to much of a problem

At what kms was the rear shock replaced ? What was the problem/symptom ? Ours has a really really hard rear shock - pretty much no suspension even with it on fully soft.
edit: oh and do you still like it ?
many thanks,

Ok.. I don't know how high 2 pisspots is but this is what I've found.
I'm 5'4" high and weigh in under 60kg. The bike is a bit of a stretch for me to reach the ground on both sides at once but I manage it on tiptoes. I can push it backwards sitting on the seat but struggle up small hills and bumps. I try not to get it over it's balance point because I'm afraid it might get away on me and I'll drop it.
Having said all of this however, I love it to bits! It took maybe a couple of weeks to get over my real nervousness with it and now wouldn't have anything smaller to learn on.
I do find when riding around town that my wrists ache because of the riding position. I'm hoping this will ease as my wrists get used to it. On the open road at 100km/hr it is much easier on the wrists as the wind lifts me off the bars a bit.

60,000 km - Good one, gy555 !
I put 1200 km on my Hyo in the first week. It has enough power to keep up with the big bikes although sure they could pass me at 110 if they chose to.
Some people like to trash Hyo's. Hondas and Harleys also cop it. So it goes. Hyos partly cop it because they are relatively new and not established like Suzuki. But I read a lot of reviews and comments by those who own Hyos and had no hesitation buying one. Yes I know some Hyo's have problems with the rear shock - I was aware of this when I bought mine, ordered one direct from Korea and got it replaced as the old one was leaking. And some Hyo's were not assembled properly here in NZ, plus of course there will be those who like the styling and some who don't. For me it came down to price, power, how it felt riding (comfortable seat even on long trips), and that I did not want a 15 - 20 year old Bandit or Spada to fix up.
BTW, Hyo have been making parts for Suzuki for over 30 years and I've read that many Hyo/Suz parts are interchangeable.

Seems like many on KB take in their bikes for servicing and I wonder why its not a DIY job. Saves money for sure, and changing oil and filter is not difficult. Even spark plugs and the air filter are no big deal and lubrication/grease points, plus the chain are also easy.
Maybe we need a KB DIY maintenance course held in AKL, Wgtn, Chch?

Rear shock replaced at 9900km (so just in the warranty:cool:) Shock became really spongy there was no dampening at all and so became bouncy - made for entertaining cornering. They are normally fairly hard but I like it like that
Still like it? would buy another without hesitation. Was thinking of buying a 650GT for longer trips until they stopped importing them. (that is the GT not the GTR)

Basic service is around $175-225.00 ie oil change and filter and general check over without any extras, most expensive I have had was $625.00 which was for oil etc. and new sprockets, plugs, chain

The GT650(R) goes like a haunted shithouse - you'll love it - climbs any hill at 160clicks.. awesome vtwin thunder from it. Ride mine if you like. :niceone:
I do wish I could soften the rear suspension on the GT250R a bit.. it bounces my mrs tiny wee ass around rather a lot.. amusing, yes, but unsettling mid-corner especially for following riders lol.

I actually wanted the GT650X, but kawa (as the agents) decided in their infinite wisdom not to import it so I havent decided what I am going to do. I do not want a sports or cruiser so it limits my choice a bit
Could be amusing watching the cornering habits of your 250GTR :woohoo:

Mine was replaced around the 5000km mark, same problem.
Was also looking at the Gt650, but alas you cant get them any more :(
Come 1st April I'll be commuting into town every day with the wife on the back of the bike. The Gt250 is OK with two lumps like us on it, but the rear could really be a little stiffer. (managed to get the front wheel off the ground the other day as the wife decided to lean back when we took off from the lights :gob:)

Blame Kawasaki again because it was them who decided to stop importing them, still get them everywhere else.
Ahhhh... so that is how you get the front wheel up on a 250 Hyo:woohoo::laugh::rofl:
