hi can any one recommend a shop or shops in Auckland that carry good stock levels of after market bits for cruisers eg handle bars and air intakes etc

My suggestion is seek out Yamaha motorcycle forums on the internet. Bound to plenty in the USA. I know there is for my make of bike so there must be for Yamaha. Some forums have cruiser sections like on kb here. Taking part in these you will soon find the info you want for where Roadliner riders in the USA prefer to shop. Sad to say but you may find it easier and cheaper to get the aftermarket parts you seek directly buying from USA. I know this doesn't sound very supportive of the NZ market but the NZ prices charged are far more expensive than imported ones by the consumer. IMO.

Hello mate, welcome to KB. I'm afraid there aren't that many shops that carry aftermarkets parts, and the ones that do don't carry an impressive range. Your best best is looking at the USA and buying online, try www.cruisercustomizing.com and Phat Customs (Sorry don't know the URL).

yep what he said, and you will probably find it will cost a lot less than what NZ shop will charge you E,G, i saved mysef $500 on a sissybar backrest luggage rack brackets set by buying from the US

Thanks for everyones help. Sadly I suspect you are all right. Part of the deal on the bike was Yamaha accessories to the value of 1.9k trouble was the accessories were priced at about 2 to 3 times that of similar ones on the net
eg sissy bar was $1300 from Yamaha and cost me $270nz delivered to my door ex cruiser customising. OK it doesn't have a fast release system but come on!!!.
The problem is sorting out what it going to look like and whether it fits and if you need other hardware etc etc. but so far all good.
seems there is a gap in the local market though hopefully some one will fill it. Meanwhile the bike is awesome. and i just cant stop smiling when I am on it. In order not to compromise any warranty I used most of the accessory money Yamaha drag pipes which are thunderously loud and will need a power commander or similar to maximise.

Hi mate i have to agree with other post Yamaha custom parts are a rip in NZ I have 2004 Roadstar and a sissy bar was $1140 then so i made one takes 5 mintes to mount . check out these sites for pics of custom Yamahas and custom parts shops www.roadstargallery.com www.baronscustom.com

ummm - the thread was called customising parts.

and thats exactly what kiwigold is doing - taking his bike, and customising it with aftermarket parts. No need to have anything 'custom' made.

Most people dont care if the bike is unique - they just want to change the bits to make the bike exactly how 'they' want it.

Best way to get upmarket gear for your bike is thru "www.cruisercustomizing.com" There is just a Shit load of stuff to chose from
and it has reviews from other bikers on the gear and how they found it on their rides. I have brought a few bit and aint finish yet. (Must hide the bill from the wife) Just have to give the credit card a rest for a while.
