Well what would you expect?
Spend some serious $$ today and purchased 2 new DR650s from Haldanes - 1 Black and 1 Blue (surprise, surprise) . Fought over who would have the blue one and of course I let him have it. <_< Funny thing was I thought we were going over just to kick tyres and then the bloody chequebook came out! :shit:
Qkkids bike should be ready by Monday Afternoon and not sure if they can source me a 07 or it will have to be an 08 (which I think is going to happen) so I might have mine by the end of the week - Haldanes have looked after us and have done us a very good deal. Looking at getting Gel Seats, Bush Bars, Skidplates and Venturas fitted to both bikes. Hopefully we can get out there and get some time under our belts before the Capital Coast Ride at end of April................ :woohoo:
Ya never know, maybe the ATNR will be changing to every second week.............. :shifty:

I went out and bought a trailbike last week to do the CCA ride too.( not as flash as a new DR - just an old KLR - but it should get me around the course and be a load of fun!)

Funny you say 08.
I bought it as a run out 07 even though it looks like an 08 (registered here as a 07)
The VIN plate has a build date of 9/07 (08 build starts in Oct for Suzuki's) so the 08 fuel tank decals/stickers are odd.
The seat doesn't seem to bad but is firm to sit on.
A 500/600 ride will soon decide,so far it has only been short rides up to a 100 kms.
First mod once it is run in will be a 30 litre fuel tank which should give 600 kms to reserve.
http://www.rvaqualine.com.au/page.php?sId=11
I have to say after only having had road or MX bikes,i should have got one of these dual sports long ago !!!
Like the pic below, you are riding along the tarseal and wonder what is up a sidetrack and just go up it. :2thumbsup... Try that on a TL1000

Yeah that is odd - all the K8s over here have those decals on (like yours) and the K7 have the white decal above the headlight and the brighter Suzuki symbol on the side of the tank..........
As you said, now we CAN go and explore up that road that has always takin my interest........

So any special reason you choose the 30litre over the 19 to 20litre IMS (they quote 18.5liters but they take 19.5 to 20) one most the rest here use?

I don't won't to push Qkchk's thread off topic but the first reason is the 30 litre tank is made here in Australia so it is easier to purchase.
The full 30 litres can be used for longer trips only and i intend to go off the beaten track.
It is mainly about the distances up here and in between can be quite desolate
Running out of fuel or water up here can be (deadly) serious.
I saw the IMS but the 6 or so litres over stock would only add around 120kms range at a steady pace ?
I have every intention of taking the DR around Australia. :niceone:

I had a CRF250, then a DR250 and did a few good trail rides, especially near Taihape...absolutely awesome fun! :headbang:

It looks like Im getting the 08 as there is only x1 more in black left in the North Island but by the time you pay for freight etc, I can have an 08 for a similar price. So its settled now......... just got to wait for it to turn up!

If you plan on doing any performance related mods (sprockets/exhausts/carb) I wouldn't mind having a tootle on it. Ridden a standard one and it seems real good value for money, but would like a tiny bit more poke!

As posted in other threads.......... have purchased x2 B7B Bash plates for A$325 landed. Will be looking at some Barkbuster hand guards on Sat, something along the price of $169 a set. Think we will hold off on that Gel Seat - After reading peoples opinions in ADVRider.com.......... might be better to do a McDonalds visit instead, but that will be latee down the track.

Let me know what you think of the Barkbusters once you have them installed. As a road bike rider, I have been used to NOT having any hand protection, so anything I will find good! What I am interested in for the touring aspect is rain/wind protection, so would be interested in what you think along those lines after you have used them in the rain. They certainly look good and the price seems good.
See who gets down to McDonalds first eh !! I know I will be heading to see then asap. I pick up my Black 07 (cos I heard they are even faster than the Blue 08 I was going to get !!! lol ) this Friday from Colemans, complete with Givi A601 screen, and a Ventura pac-rack. I have ordered the skid plate and IMS tank, so they should be about a week away ... I sure am looking forward to getting out and checking out the roads I've avoided on my road bike! Wahoooooo :wari:

Me too, so far max impact speeds of 60km's have been sustained without any reconstruction needed (the handguards that is).
For me, the most important mods have been tyres, handguards and bar risers, these make the most improvement to the bike. Actually, the best thing you can do is to ride the bike, the mods you will want to do will become apparent with time.

Yep, stay away from the plastic ones. I've got a set of the Zetas too, they're basically a cheaper copy of the Barkbusters, were easy to fit & seem to work well. A mate has a set of Ego handguards on his DR which seem to do the business too.

I have got the bigger plastic guards. I've never really thought about the difference in wind/rain protection from when I didn't have guards. There may be an improvement, I'm not sure.
I mainly got them to protect the levers if the bike has a little lie down, and to protect my hands from foliage, airborne stones etc. And they make the sherpa look a bit less skinny and weedy.
