Suspension issues.

my mate recently bought an older kx80, and has some suspension problems.

the back shock is very soft bottoms out real easy and is real springy, jumps up if you take your weight off the bike. theres no oil leaking on the shaft or anything. can this be fixed or will a new shock be required.

the front forks are also very soft. they dont leak though.

can these be re gassed or anything?

have you changed any of the compression/rebound settings?

Danger will advise you on this....It sounds like you neeed to re-gas and oil the shock and put new oil in the forks+ seals while your in there.

Dont know what the standard rate is ,as I do my own forks and havent done my shock.

Yeah your probally on the right track...sounds like the bladder may have gone aswell...needs a service definatly most likely...

But also depends on maybe the riders weight to...if they are super heavy for the bike...that might be more than part of the issuse.

around 80 kgs. shouldnt be to heavy for the bike??

80 kg's :shit: - thats getting close, if not past the capabilities of the little klx 80 sus. especially an 'older' one. stiffer fork springs will help and a good service on the back. but don't jump the little greenie to high aye.

haha yeah was kinda taking the piss about the weight thing. i realise thier only for young fellas. were not jumping it to hard tho

how much would i be looking at to fix the back shock..under 100?

have heard you can put shims on top of the fork springs to stiffen it up??

pfffft my mate can double me on the back of his cr80, im just over 100kg and he'd be near 70.. doesnt bottom out! but my knees are almost on the ground haha :scooter:

yea i was kinda meaning 'weight loading with which the bike will perform as it was designed to' not how much it will physicly take before it falls to pieces beneath you lol :scooter:

oh, it performs alright with both of us on it, no wheel spin anyway :)

Best you just give me a call on 09 832 0153 if you want the suspension serviced and sorted out properly. I bet the suspension has never had been apart and I've had shocks come in here with about a tablespoon of oil and the customer complaining about symptoms such as yours. If it has lost nitrogen it could be as simple as someone has released the nitrogen or the bladder could have gone. Regardless to do the job properly and safely on an old bike it should have a service. If I strip it and the shock is stuffed there will be no charge. Prices will depend on what is needed and this is not the place to do business so give me a call if you like.
