I would most probably be catching the ferry and traveling to Chch on the Wednesday and spending a lazy day in Chch on Thursday (wifes family are in ChCH so I might have to do a bit of relly visiting). Was also considering coming back up the west coast (all dependent on weather) and taking a couple of days to get home.
I will not be traveling fast (100 ish) as I'm on the DT230.
where do you normally ride your 450???

Mark, have family down south also (Ashvagas and Timvagas) so timeframe suits me. Will ride the Super Ten so in no hurry. Did a ride down south at Xmas (Dansies Pass, Blackforest RD, Thompson's Track, MacKenzey's Pass and of course the Raindow Road) so looking forward to getting back down there.
Mainly ride on organised trail rides in the area but love the two day or long distance stuff (offroad of course) also get up the Maungie's ocassionally for a blast.
How about yourself? Maungie's mostly? I did see your photo's on the Advrider site, must have rained heavily before you rode it?

Snow - anything knobbish
Ice - no good tyres
It's the possible mud I plan for on the long way round Friday and Saturday/Sunday/Monday travels... and those are the same knobbish tyres as for snow. D606 springs to mind as a typical answer for me on this trip... but there will still be a few others about that will still wear the likes of Mitas E07 or similar.

I'll try the D606 on the rear. MT21 on the front still good, but same on the rear is starting to look pretty square- I'm sure I can finish it off before the BM.
Cheers.

Guys . Don't get to worried bout the ice and snow , last year we saw none at all. Just ride on your regular tyres. Most of our riding will be gravel and rocky farm track terrain , suitable for 2 up if you take it easy.

At this stage I'm keen too. Might struggle keeping to 100 though and I have a friend I'd like to visit in Lake Ohau so we might split up south of Picton. I'll connect with the overlanders at some point on their route.

Thought I would keep the thread alive as the Monkey draws nearer, if you are ever in the Kapiti region I thoroughly recommend you try the devils staircase and rock garden in the Akatara Forest. There is a great 50 odd km loop from the Mangatukutuku Valley side of the forest that follows the Karapoti Mtb race course in reverse....not for the faint hearted or GS rider...

I would have been keen Matt, but as you may remember, after a wee traffic ticket I got last year, the baliff decided he better have my lisence for 3 months, and the KLR isn't included on the work lisence :spanking:
Ironically, I get my full lisence back on the 6th of June, a week too late :(
Hope you guys have a great trip yet again

Mickyboy - how you getting on regarding the route? Have you got any further with your route (I've been hearing rumors). Keen to help if I can. I've got some ideas for the ride between Rakaia and Albury and that avoid the State Highway's and involve a bit of gravel/dirt (still mostly seal though). Depends on how fast you want to get south and where you want to stop for the night?

Hey there Mickeyboy,
I'd love to be part of the team, but sadly I don't get my license back until 6th of June, just after the Brass trip...... :soon: :oi-grr:
Bloody demerit points...... :Police:
Anyway, I'm VERY KEEN to hear :mobile: of any trips or rides on after 6th of June, as not having been on the KLR for 3 months, I'm going to be off for some gentle :scooter: rides the next day :-)
Have a great ride everyone, Stu
