Methinks Mr Motu (that would be GoodMotu, not BadMotu) is grieving his XLV750 that he (BadMotu) recently threatened to divest himself (GoodMotu) of. :eek5:
Which means he (BadMotu) has actually gorn and done The Deed. :spudwhat:

Westies...

Yeah I know!

In the good old days it would have been a Holden 186 short block, the promise of a Yellaterra head, and fizzy Lion Red.

I blame Helen Clark.

Course nowadays it's really Holden by the shorts, The promise of some fizzy head and a block of Lion Red.

The Hilux lump is all I have to offer.

There's a 3.5L Rover V8 with a blown head gasket out the back, but he belonga my father-in-law.

fizzy Lion Red.

Didn't know you could get that.

Then again, I never actually drink the stuff.

I figure if I post it for sale here it'll be a done deal and I'll have to put it on TradeMe.The KT has gone, the XS1 is under way,so it's the XLV's turn. It's hard for me to sell it,it's the best bike I've owned and I'm pashionate about it (even if I can't spell it) But the XT seems to be the bike I was looking for when I got the XLV,but went for a ride and I had to have it - shit,I still have to have it! But it only comes out on 'the Honda needs a run' days, the battery is always flat and I feel it's a crime to hide this thing away from the public.I'm going to regret it in 10yrs time when these things change hands for over 10grand - but atleast I can stagger over to the young fulla on my walking stick and wheez - ''I used to have one of these y'know sonny''.I do that enough as it is!

It's a 1986 model, about 90,000km and lovingly maintained by all owners, fully documented sevice history.Crash bars, screen, high and low front guards, twin driving lamps,K&N filter, opened filter cover, but new unused cover and standard filters to retrofit, unusual owner crafted exhaust with ceramic coated header pipes,2 sizes up on the mains and needles lifted, new alt stator and regulator - complete with a spare engine. The last one to sell on TradeMe went for $2600,although it was a rarer model than mine (well, just the paint job,and mines custom anyway) but not in as good nick,it had no WoF or rego and may have been a non runner,so I'll start with a $2500 reserve, and hope it goes for more.

I want to have a last fling at off road, although at 51 I should really just flag it away and buy a cruiser, but it's in my blood and I want to walk away from the dirt with having had a crack at it with a more modern bike.Apart from trials and the odd adventure and bit of a play on 4x4 tracks I haven't ridden off road for nearly 10yrs.My confidence has taken a tumble with the big bikes,so am looking at lightweights - a KLX250/300 would be nice and fit in my price range, and can be street legal, they don't weigh much more than a KDX200 which is also on my look list,a 91 KDX being the last bike I can remember riding hard. But the DT230 has just taken my fancy, kind of a sophisticated KDX,a bit weighty for a smoker, but with a letrik leg and lower seat height, but used ones are at the top end of my price range - depends on how much the bikes go for...

Oh,sorry about the ramble,I'm just babbling in shock...now where's that wine bottle,I need to settle my nerves and get on TradeMe....

870 views,no bids,21 watchers - they are waiting to the last minute to take it up to reserve and stop. One guy had a look at it yesterday,he only wants to pay the reserve.

Thought it was yours, looks like you are clearing out your garage. Hope you get a good price for the old girl. They were my dream bike when they came out , had a poster on the wall. Settled for a XR500A at a tenth of the price. Still got no mulah so I'll just let the old dreams stay where they lie.

It's gone - good riddance, stupid bloody thing,I never liked it ,it's better off out of my life....

NOOOOOO!!!!! WAAAHAAAAHAAAAA      As it went out the door on a trailer I ran out onto the road and watched until it was a dot on the horizon. It's going to live on SH22,it'll be happy there, and then it's off to the Sth Is,a good place for XLVs.

In 35 yrs of owning bikes this one has made the most impression on me,it's going to be hard to forget,I really identified with it - if you ever meet me I'll probably burble on about some old bike I used to own - just nod and ignore me.

Only one bid on the reserve,I was disapointed in that, but set the reserve at the price I wanted,so it's no big deal,it's just I can't believe that 3 weeks ago there was frantic bidding to $2600 for a non runner with no WoF or rego - takes all sorts.I now have enough cash to start looking at other bikes, have found a DT230 in Wellytown I'll look at over Xmas.I may sell one more bike, one I've had for over 25yrs,that will push me up into the next price bracket - depends on how cold blooded Iron Man is....I's a bit soft at the moment, don't hit me when I'm down....

I understand entirely.

The TRX is the closest thing to a perfect bike I've ever owned.

And I killed it.

At least you sent yours to a better life (maybe).

Hmmm, the ole XLV750, something about them, known a couple of guys who have had them, and they have been so passionate about them, funny really, you expect that sort of sentiment from old Ducati owners and the like, not the sort of trait usually found in Honda owners. Rode a couple, didnt really set the world on fire, sort of stuck half way too much, not enough dirt bike (too heavy) not enough road bike (top end), had a DR600S at the time, thought it was a better compromise (apart from no leccy start), but yeah, the guys that owned them thought they were the bees knees.
Wouldnt mind having a go on one of these though

The XRV750 was a better bike for the same purpose as the XLV750,mainly just because it was a newer bike, lessons learned from the XLV750 etc,it's called progress. But the Africa Twin was longer, heavier and less powerful with a narrower power band,I'd take one if I was going to tour the Sth Is.

The XLV750 was no dirt bike,it was also not that good on gravel - but for point to point on rough unknown back roads there was nothing to beat it.Everyone who has one is passionate about them, that's why they are such a cult bike in Europe - it's the motor that did it for me....hard to hide that flattrack heritage.
