Good afternoon folks,
I would like some advice regarding going for a full bike test. I passed my restricted test about two weeks ago, and I am currently enrolled to do the approved driving course in two weeks time. This will enable me to reduce the time I have to wait to sit the full test down to three months, happy days.
Here is the problem, I wish to head back to the Isle of Man for the TT festival and I would like have my full licence when I do. The thing is, when I am eligible to go for my full test (around the 18th May) its pretty close to when I'll need to head off to the Isle of Man, and if I did'nt pass........it would screw up my plans.....
Has anyone ever asked to be allowed to do their full bike test sooner than is allowed? I have read that some people have been given special dispensation to ride bigger bikes because of the size of the rider etc.
Any thoughts on this greatfully appreciated.
All the best Yoss!

good luck with the test. Id say you will be pushing shit up hill trying to get the test earlier than you are allowed too, the LTSA are pretty tight with thier rules etc, your best bet is just to prepare as best you can and nail it on the day!!
I looked at the whole getting a dispensation for a bigger bike thing, was not an easy road either so i flagged it.
The test is not difficult, if you stay upright, to the speed limit and talk lots when asked questions you'll be fine. :niceone:

You can get dispensation for larger bikes and to sit your full earlier. Its not hard or expensive.
I went directly from a learner to a full and a large bike without ever sitting my restricted - this was in December so the info is still current.
Search my threads and you will find a ton of info on it.

Yoss, perhaps you can answer me how long in advance you can/should/must book your test for restricted.

I'll review your posts properly re. the full bike test. Mikkel, concerning myself and passing my restricted test, I pretty much had the learners licence for the six months and then applied to do the restricted a few weeks after my six months were up. I did it at the AA at Meadowlands and it was pretty easy as other posters have said.
I'll get back to you when I've inquired about the full test thing. Again, thanks for the help.

Cheers, was mostly concerned with how long the wait would be from booking your test until you sit it...
Good luck with the full mate!

gidday i know this isnt why you started the thread but is that approved driveing course universal for cars and bikes ? as i have only seen a defensive driveing course and havent seen anywhere that it reduces bike licence times...

Riders under 25 years of age
You must hold your restricted licence for a minimum period of 18 months before you can move to a full licence. This can be reduced to 12 months if you successfully complete an approved course teaching advanced riding skills (provided you do the course after you have held your restricted licence for at least six months).

Riders aged 25 or over
You must hold your restricted licence for a minimum of six months before you can move to a full licence. This can be reduced to three months if you successfully complete an approved course teaching advanced riding skills.

Mikkel,
I waited until the six months had elasped, so when I applied to do the restricted I had to wait about two or three weeks from my initial application to sitting the bike test.
Also I forgot to mention that I'm over 25 in case that caused any confusion....
Cheers.

Evening folks,
Just a quick up-date regarding my application to be allowed to sit my full test sooner than I would normally be allowed. I received a letter last week from LTNZ and they declined my request " This is because the conditions of your class 6 restricted licence are not unreasonable or inappropriate in this particular case".
So I can sit my full test on the 18th May after I've completed my approved driving course (which I have two more sessions of).
I've absolutely no problem with LTNZ's decision and I think they have made a fair enough judgement, but if you don't ask you don't get!
Anyway I hope what I did helps someone out in the future regarding anything similar.
Take care.

I was in VTNZ, Adelaide Rd today and apparently Wellington is booked up until after 29th April. So it looks like about a month's wait. You could book your test out of area where's it may not be so busy.
BTW I went Tank's route with LTSA and they said yes. Doing my test tomorrow afternoon so it's time to walk the walk now.
Edit: Passed
