View Full Version : Attaching H-D Patch to Leather Jacket?

I have a Harley Davidson patch that I wish to attach to a black leather jacket, preferably without sewing it to the leather.
Are there any glues available that will do the job? Ideally, a glue that will allow the patch to be removed later if necessary.
Thanks.

the patch might be iron on? not sure how well that would hold on leather. otherwise go somewhere like mitre 10 and ask about glues suitable for leather. the glue will give over time, and will need to be re glued.

Saw this post yesterday.. surprised no one replied.

Unfortunately I reckon you're gonna have to get it stitched on or just not use it at all.

An adhesive could deteriate the leather and in the weather conditions in NZ (one only assumes you're not a Sunday Sunny Rider) it'd proberly come off mid-flight.

If you're gonna stick a patch on a leather jacket, it's meant to stay there for generations. But I can totally understand why you wouldn't want to punch holes in your jacket.

If you can swallow your pride, you could try going to one of those craft stores and ask them for advice, I reckon they'd be able to find you a proper adhesive.

Get yourself one of those cute little vests for all the badges n stuff. Seems to be the popular option - tassels and side laces to accessorise...

A "real" HD rider stitches their patches onto jackets... while they're wearing them.

why do you want to put a HD patch on? can't everyone seel what bike your on? or is it so that when you are having ur chai latte mocochino shit-in-a-cup at starbucks, people will be able to tell that you're not a skinney white accountant?

Ha! Soft Auckland latte' sucking Homo Dailies do that - REAL bikers get their ole' lady to tattoo the patch directly into the skin with a blunt pin and used gearbox oil for ink...

Fuck yes - I'd never want to be confused with a skinney white accountant... Much cooler to be a fat black gravedigger...

No seriously - sewing your patch on is all part of the deal with them things - enjoy! (I used to have a campfire blanket for badge collecting when I was in the boy scouts)

Take it to your nearest upholsterer and get 'em to stick it on with their Ados glue. This doesn't damage the leather and it sticks like shit to a blanket. It's what we've always glued our patches on with.

Hey - cut out the polite sensible advice based on experience - try to remember where you are for heavens sake!

Hear, hear

Pretty much any contact adhesive will work

Ados F2 is the common one in the market - but it is not waterproof - and will eventually fail. I think there is an Ados F9 which may be better

There is a waterproof Bostick available in bigger supermarkets, and there are a couple of good 3M products designed for automotive applications.

Ahh yes, I couldn't remember what our other brand was  I think you can even buy some of these brands at Mitre 10 or Bunnings etc.

hi there, the only option is getting it sewen on, the iron on adhesive doesnt stick to leather and any glue that you use will ruin the vest when its pulled of....and dont listen to people that have nothing better to do than mock harley owners, if they owned one thay would be doing the same

I'm not mocking harley owners - or any owners, some people go with the patch thing some people don't, nothing wrong with a bit of leg pulling and I still say - get yourself a vest - thats the best thing to sew a patch on because it's not lined and there is no armour etc to stress about!

Do it properly and sew it on. If you cant then get someone who can. Looks better. Seem like a lot of Harley riders I've seen sew them onto vests and wear that on outside their jackets. My 2c
