Not that you'd know but is it 1st round of National champs this weekend at Ruapuna? Went and watched V8's on Sunday had some freebie VIP Hydralinc pass, not bad, actually pretty damn impressive for little ole NZ.

Yep. It's the NZGP round. I went last year- hardly anyone there which was surprising as there was some good racing and it was bloody cheap compared to the car racing. The 1000's are getting bloody quick- Stroud came within a 100th or 1000th or two of breaking the Brittens lap record.

Dunno about televised (doubt it) - i was hoping to take a video camera but my partner is not on "speaking terms" with the owner. Pity - it'll be tight racing on one of the best circuits in NZ. Plus i was hoping to improve my camera technique after capturing 20 mins of the ground and about 5 mins of vomit inducing sky / track / sky / track at the last meet.
Bring on the big boys!
I'm thinking about crusing out there on friday to get some autographs and have a bit of a chat - they will probably all be there by then!?!

for the dark horse for F1 is Jon Lowther. He's fast. Dunno if he's as fast as these other boys yet but in the testing he's done down here he seems right up there.... dunno how sorted his R1 is but it looked and sounded very very good

OK, heard ad on the radio, $15 each day, but could probably get a weekend pass for $25, think this was the deal last year.
Thunderbike Engineering in Nelson have a mechanic who use to work for the Rizla Suzuki team in the UK, was Yukio's engine man, think he may be involved in Strouds engine.

saturday was full of action
here's a couple of pictures from the end of the first lap of the 600's.
thats Shaun Harris in front, i think. Andrew stroud is in 5th and managed to get up to 4th on the last lap. apart from that there were no changes in the first 5 for the race.
the superbikes saw stroudy completely stuff up his start and was in the grass at the end of the start finish straight. he did manage to get back up to 11th by the end but kiwi races just arent long enough to make up for that kind of stuffup.Tony Rees and Ray Klee had a good ol dice with Tony taking the lead from ray on the last lap.

I won't do a race report here myself, since fully describing all of what i saw over the three days would turn into a novel, so just a summary / highlight package i reckon...
First of all, huge raps to all of the riders for turning up and racing with such a high level of skill in what i'd describe as "challenging conditions". Friday was good (very warm), saturday was average with a string blustery nor easter, and sunday was - well, the pits, with strong southerlies and on again off again rain. Made everything really interesting tho especially with tyre choices!
Also like to thank all of the riders i approached for a qik chat and a tee shirt signing session - they were all really friendly (esp Bernard , Stroud, Rees amd shirrifs). Can't believe how laid back everybody was!
Highlights:
1) Nico's mono the length of the front straight on Friday was impressive - was waiting for a gust to get him tho!
2) Being able to watch that many quality riders performing over 3 days
3) Meeting a couple of KB'ers namely Lynda Blair (and Hamish), CSL, Mad Duck, Nico and a few Chch locals
4) Getting my T-shirt signed by Rees, Bernard, Harris, Stroud, Shirriffs and anybody else i could fid that could still hold a pen (even kickaha...)
Lowlights:
1) The weather on Sunday
2) Watching TVNZ switch the cameras off for everything but superbikes and 600's
If you get a chance to see these guys at a local track, just do it... awesome racing! I'm hoping to make it up to the Paeroa Street race... that should be a cracker... oh yeah. i've got 50+ piccies and one video (ask Lynda) will attempt to edit them and post to the gallery soon...
