The Ulysses Motorcycle Club has raised NZ$8,000 for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust on their annual ride.

Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust chief executive Rea Wikaira says the money will help buy 406 MHz locator beacons for helicopter crew. He added that the club has contributed more than NZ$100,000 towards equipment for the helicopter service over the past decade.

Nice to give out some praise for good works.

Good work guys! Was worried the weather would put most people off, but it seems to have gone well regardless.

I know the cops/council/whoever reckon it costs more than that to organise the ride, but I think it's really valuable for bringing public attention and awareness to both motorcycling and the rescue helicopter. And it's got a real "feel-good" factor for all parties involved, the riders, the rescue crew, the spectators (other than the whining bastard who had to wait a couple of mins before he could cross the road), and perhaps even the cops.
